I have a Rotland 903 and an HRDX setup, when I disconnect one of the 2 batteries the screen on the HRDX goes blank. Is this normal? I can't find anything in the manual.

You must have a battery connected to the BATT 1 terminals .
The installation instructions say, " If using a single battery bank, ensure this is connected to BATT1. The LCD meter will only display correctly when a battery is connected to BATT1".
