Oh and finally, if you are in the carib without planing dinghy, it isn’t that you will just take a bit longer to get some places - the extra time means you just won’t go to some places at all, cos of the too-long dinghy rides. You need max power, minimum weight which mans a 2-stroke so don’t buy until you are much nearer the caribbean and away from loon 4-stroke greenish foolery.
As an analogy think of the places you can go in the car, just locally. Now think how many of those casual trips you would make if you all had bicycles instead? Yes, you do all the shopping on the bicycles. And yes sometimes it blows 30 knots, but it’s still sunny almost every single day.
Two more disadvantage of not having planing dinghy :
1 it means you will tend to anchor closer inshore for shortest ride ashore ... but means eternal boat-bashing or anchor-tangling issues with other boats
2 It means you will be anchoring close inshore even in an empty anchorage and hence be in range of the shoreside mosquitoes
Finally ... when anchoring as you will do in most carib areas ... a dinghy is a SAFETY item. If it’s faster, that’s better safety. If you or a crew has medical or other urgent issue - that dinghy is the first ambulance. Neeeeeeeeeee yes, as I was saying, i can’t see the need for a faster dinghy than slow walking speed can you darling? Is your arm hurting so much that you can’t row on your side? Hum.
