Bought another boat.

A bit more progress. Engines etc all winterised - it's going to be really cold this week up north. New battery charger in, heater ducting complete so boat gets nice and toasty everywhere. New work tops, taps and sinks have arrived and I fitted the galley tops. Very sparkly in the sunshine. They are not screwed down yet as I need to fit the fridge and plumb in the taps. Which will be easier if the worktops can be lifted up. The sink is very well made in stainless steel, £69 on eBay.

As per MrGs request. I have been doing some more - but I am now at a point when the weather is an issue. It is pretty cold and damp so not suitable for painting and glueing. I want to sort out the bathroom wall coverings etc and install all the under counter/inside cupboard LED strip lights. But even with the heater on for a few hours the surfaces are just not getting warm - or dry enough. So I am on a go slow until probably March. Which for me doesn't matter. However I have been doing more bits.

Bathroom sink, tap and work top. Sink is from my favourite marine supplier. Ebay. £35. The bathroom will be done in white in the spring. With cupboards etc to match the others, grey surrounds with grey wood effect etc. Just need to work out how to unbolt the existing loo. I can't reach the nuts, and I am trying not to cut an access hole. May have to though.

There is now a cupboard with shelves under the galley drawer. I will be replacing the 50mm fuel hose shortly, which you can just see at the backk of the cupboard. It has gone a bit "doughy" after all these years and I really don't want petrol going anywhere other than the stainless tank.

And there is now a galley tap. I would like to claim the way it nicely goes through the opening in the air fryer cupboard door, misses the cutlery drawer and doesnt interfere with the airfryer door was excellent design. It wasn't I got lucky.

When it is a bit warmer and dryer I will line the airfryer cupboard with heat reflecting foil. It will look better and keep the cupboard cooler. Not that the airfryer gets very hot externally.

Lots of nifty ideas there! I like the tap through the door opening…..that’s very clever

I do however refute the weather issue…as with all these things….all that’s need is MORE POWER

Not much to show - sorry. But last few days have been sunny, dry and importantly not too windy. So it seemed like a good time to start removing the horrible old stripes and collection of stickers. The boat looks a bit dumpy without them, however I think it is an illusion caused by the bow section stripes still being there. As you can see I ran out of pontoon. I will turn the boat around once the weather warms up properly as the engines are winterised. In the right light you can see where the transfers etc used to be so I will attack it all with wet and dry then rubbing compound. Then polish it - well probably. It's been a bit cold and wet, plus been away for Xmas so not much has been done - except a growing pile of bits in the spare room. Access hatches, shower pump out box. A Fossibot Li-Ion 2.4kW, power pack has just been delivered that will be running the boat (well the fridge, an occasionally used air fryer, a coffee maker and a few lights really) when it's out of the marina. (and in the house in winter as we keep getting long power cuts with each bigger storm).

Clever box of tricks. It charges from either solar panels, 240v mains or 12V dc - excellent! The boat engines can charge it albeit slowly.

I have had an idea though and wonder what the MBY crew might think. The rear C pillar is a wide space and I cannot put in a window. I did think about putting the boat name on it. But I also wondered about using mirror tape to create what looks like a window with bars across it, similar to a design theme Fairline have been using now for a long time. Fairline used this design feature back in the 2000's initially as a design feature but later actually over windows. Let me know what you think, or if you have any better ideas. Meanwhile I will be making a new bathroom cabinet in a warmish dry garage.

edit: is it just me or is that VHF antennae really tall?

No idea, can't see the end of it 😁

No it’s used for going under bridges when there has been no rain , you go under a bridge it snaps off . Then if it rains a lot the water rises and the rod tells you what height the water has risen .

Well good news and bad news. The boat is now close to having carpets and flooring fitted. The exterior is looking better each time too. The new loo should arrive this afternoon to replace the other errr new loo that arrived broken. Fuel filler hose replaced, Water tank gauge installed etc etc. I have taken the fuel sender out and had a look inside the petrol fuel tank checking for water and contamination. It seems to be spotlessly clean! Can't find any water using a long thin tube sucking out petrol from various locations and the tank bottom is bright and shiny. So more progress, the end (ish) in sight..............until.

Having mostly fixed up an old boat it now turns out that it's me that needs rebuilding. Or to be more specific re-plumbing. The occaisional minor angina has become more serious. I am now waiting for a date for a triple coronary bypass operation. As a result I am banned from going near the boat for a while. Probably 6 to 9 months in reality. Bugger. Fingers crossed a 3 month wait for the op then another 3 months healing. It could be much much worse, I could have discovered the dreaded diesel bug all over the fuel tank ;-). Fortunately bunged up arteries are not contagious, it doesn't spread and is very fixable.

Boat wise I am now rather limited. I have a piece of 18mm marine ply in the garage all cut and shaped to fill in the space in the bathing platform. I think 17 coats of varnish is now probably enough. Any suggestions for activities that do not require walking more than 250 yards and or going up any sort of hill gratefully received.

Sorry to hear about this Big K...take care of yourself....the boat can wait....in fact, don’t even think about it, put it right out of your mind...because the worry won’t heal your heart any quicker. Instead think of amusing stuff...like the doctor who got struck off for telling his female patient that she has acute angina 🤣

Very inconsiderate of your arteries to get a bit clogged up….they clearly don’t care about the forum content enough.

I would say good luck but this is an op done 1000’s of times a day. One thing NHS is good at is cardiac. No luck required 👊👊

You’ll be back picking the wrong colour for kitchen cabinet doors before you know it

You could walk to the boat 250m at a time , get back on here soon ,we are all sick of Bouba it’s like reading a WI meeting minutes
