Could this be epoxied and make a decent repair, bearing in mind the force to do up and undo ?
There was a steel replacement on one of the gear boxes on my previous boat, but I'm afraid I have no idea who made or supplied it.I can’t answer your question but simply add that this is a common failure and stupidly expensive to replace. I am aware that there is a firm that makes steel replacement equivalents that don’t break though I haven’t yet personally acquired one.
Is that $85 that I can see in the bottom right hand side?
Yes it is, but the replacement Yanmar version is a similar price and regularly breaks as has the OP’s.Is that $85 that I can see in the bottom right hand side?
Yes I had thought about the breather hole and if I glued/epoxied would block it. I like the pin thru the tube suggestion, but will probably bite the bullet for £50 ish. Thanks allDon't forget there is a breather channel up the middle of the fipstick
Which is exactly my pain for this season.....new gearbox, ouch. They are a complete pita. I've tried various glueing options but in the end, the answer is new.
Boats are supposed to have stupid money spent on them.
Oh, by the way, when the cone drives wear so they won't engage anymore coz the gear lever has been put in astern counter to makers instructions, a new gearbox is proper money.....
I've broken one and learned my lesson. The trick is not to use force with it. I'm told it doesn't need it.Could this be epoxied and make a decent repair, bearing in mind the force to do up and undo ?
