I agree

just like many of the sailors on here then.

Why have D-list celebs that most people haven't heard of and don't care about. Ordinary people that the audience can relate to would be better.

In some ways you are correct

but Tristram and his bossat Pathogen TV (a lovely bloke called Piers MacDuff) feel that using well known people would be good. They are thinking of having different types of celebrities in different boats

He said that three men in a boat had shown just how accessible sailing can be

Can you not imagine it.

A boat of musicians - Kylie Limoge and Scoop doggy dog have agreed

a boat of newsreaders - Snow and Burke are very keen we understand - provided Paxman and Sergeant agree

A boat of businessmen - Sugar said no - but Branson said yes, so did the bloke from Ratners

any suggestions for other types of celeb

this is going to be really, really big

such a shame I won't have the time to get involved

I shall pass the idea onto Tristram

just between you and I there is a good chance he will love it as he is prepared to do anything to film angry people on camera

However,I am sure that there would be several BBC meetings before deciding whether or not to go ahead with this plan

I shall report back to you as soon as I can

meantime... I would welcome your input on the advisability of such a sequence

If not a blue ensign - is there any sort of flag that you could show being burned on TV

Dylan
You could always wave a red flat at a Red Bull

Jools Holland and Seasick Steve much better.

On the subject of trolling...

I'm afraid the appearance of the name Tristram at the bottom of the message blew you out of the water. AA Gill always had a soft spot for Tristrams.

I acutally think MoodySabre hit it on the head.

Celebrity-Reality this that and the other has been done a death and is, frankly, getting tedious and gets switched over the minute I see it...

But, A number of sailing characters, strangers to each other, with 'key' personalities, from the general public, put together on a boat each week..."Come sail with me?" That i'd watch!

I can think of one forum memeber, a qualified yachtmaster instructor and a jolly nice chap when you meet him in the flesh . He would be perfect. His views on MMGW and and pretty much any other subject might not be so welcome

I smell a stunted mythical Norwegian creature under a bridge. Commercial sponsorship all over the boats, on BBC 1? Pathogen TV? I know a lot of TV can make you sick but there's no need to advertise the fact in the company name.

There is a company called Pathogen TV, but they are US based, unlikely to be working on a "copycat" project with the BBC. And Tristram? Don't make me laugh, well actually it did :)

Henrietta is a relatively well known ladies' name, so no reason not to have a wife "Henry" even if hetro, but I thought Henry was the work boss that had to be consulted. I can't be bothered to check my facts by re-reading the thread, but you're wrong either way. :D :p

& please stop dissing this wonderful career opportunity that Dylan has cast my way. I have already started writing the "Tittle-Tattle" book of the series that will make my name as a kiss & tell sailor of great repute. I now need some introductions to publishers who specialise in famous Media people's stories so that I can secure the usual lucrative advance & buy new winches for my old boat.

Hang on a mo', Searush. You're going to have problems if I and the other 4 blue ensign flying boat owners don't sign releases for the use of our and our boats' images. I would suggest that a collaborative effort would prevent any ill-feeling, litigation, or taking up a dark alley. Anyway it looks as if you need help with the editing - I presume you meant "hetero".

I was considering employing that colour-challenged Ken McC as my sailing master. He would add a soupçon of humour and could take the role of the Star Trek red jersey when a sacrifice was needed.

Releases only apply to recognisible people. They are not a legal requirement anyway, just a precaution against legal action. Boats don't qualify. You have no rights in the image of your boat.
If they filmed on board your boat without your permission that would be a separate issue.

Anyway. in Troll-land it's all different.

The Stars & Stripes (Old Glory) is regularly shown on TV being burnt but not by yachtsmen.

No one has mentioned the qualifications the old sods, sorry, old salts would need. Does Awol have a commercially endorsed YMO? Would he need to have an ENG1 medical or would that other kind do? What colour should the boats be (very important)? Are spinnakers allowed and if so which way up should they be?

Oooh!
St. Tom Cunnnilifffe and Day Mellon "tutoring" Katie Price and Jedward on how best to set a code zero on a gaff cutter sprit! I'd pay cash money to see Simon Cowell used to demonstrate MOB drill.
