I have just returned from a three week holiday only to find that after refusing to answer my letters/emails since July Trader had actually visited the boat and done about 1% off the work whilst still not responding to my countless letters/emails.
I know have an engine room roof blistered in corrosion as the saltwater it contained because it was directed there by the faulty side vents has so corroded it. The side vents had been removed for the insertion of the new vents hack sawed into the side of the boat and replaced all scratched with the white undercoat showing thjrough on a hull I paid well over $40,000 extra to have in flag blue..
Most items on the list such the as bunk bed that cannot be used because they forgot to properly support it or the blistered teak finished all over the place have simply been ignored.
The faulty hob in the gallery they have said they are not responsible for but they will speak to the maker who is!!! (they routinely hold themselves aloof from UK law!) They were shown this hob in July and tried to operate it themselves – 4 months later they have not done a thing about it
So after their last visit in July and after their refusal to respond to answer a single point I am now left with finishing off the legal paperwork - a task involving almost 3000 sheets of paper and then pressing the button. I have done 90% of this work so there is just one more push and its done. This will have consumed hundreds of hours of my time - time that cannot be claimed back under the law.
I am even having to prepare all the proof for things that have agreed to do but failed to do - even up to almost almost a year ago. Their refusal to even comment on each point makes the task even more difficult. I made the last payment on this boat about one year ago and it arrived on the 4th December 2005. It still needs a new keel as well as much other work. I will after legal warnings to them just be biting the bullet and getting all the work done over the winter and then pursuing them through the courts.
I am posting this as a reminder to anyone who would even think about dealing with Tarquin in Emsworth - my case is by no means unique - they are simply the worst business I have ever had to deal with in my life. They are experts at stringing things out and are by no means strangers to litigation
I have already been contacted by three serious potential buyers and by simply relating my story I know I have cost them a serious loss of sales. It just saddens me when I see reference to their boats in the press as it does to hear of anyone getting sucked in like I was sucked in.
I will now do all the work needed on the boat and I shall pursue them regardless of cost and time for recompense. I shall not let them off the hook.
I hope others will learn from my experiences with them. I understand that many cannot be as open as I am because they worry about devaluing their boat etc. I am long past that point.
