Sewing Canvas

Not my usual thing.... but I need to put a zip in the canvas cover over the boat. Is there a sewing thing that I could use to do this in situ? The cover is very big and heavy - 11M x 3M X 2M approx. Takes 3 of us to lift it when folded!

Any ideas, don't want to do it with an awl by hand really....

for that size, the answer is a machine. Your local lorry tarpaulin people will be able to fix it quick, as they do repairs to truck tilts and canvases all the time.

If you use your sewing machine invest in a "walking foot" (about a tenner on ebay), make it easier.
