CRACKED my overheating ,misfire, cutting out problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! having removed the head again, and taken it to be tested the result was Thankfully the head pressure tested O.K, although the head gasket was at fault again!! so I went back to apprentice days, and thought hard! i remembered an old college lecturer droning on about bolts stretching after they had been torqued down ,so I started playing and measuring, and discovered that there was some debris in the head bolt bores, which was preventing the head bolts from tightening the head sufficiently, although i was getting the correct torque readings!!! so i have cleaned out the tapped holes as best as possible and ground of about 2mm of the head bolt so i can tighten the head down correctly, have ordered new gaskets from motor factors ,so should be finally up and running, by thursday, fingers crossed!!!!"

again thanks to all for their help,

SO HAVE I

Those of you at Mercury will know about my "loose" fanbelt. After fitting a new belt, this as well, was getting loose. Well the belt was wearing away caused by rough (corrosion) on the three pulley wheels the worst was the bottom (crank) one. So a few minutes with a file and now they are as smooth as a babys bum.

That should sort it once and for all - obvious really.....

Right I'm going down to Poole NEXT MONDAY (28th) and will be down all week coming back on the Sunday ........

On those engines its a 'must do' thing to re torque the head bolts after the thing has run for a while. I normally go for a pootle for a couple of hours at varying throttle then let the thing cool and re torque.

I have a similar problem to Julian. The starboard engine overheats when reving above 3500rpm under load. All appears ok at slow revs load or not and at higher revs with no load.

I think I may have picked up a plastic bag on the leg as I noticed one just as it went under the starbord side of the bow. Could this have been drawn over the intake and starved the raw water system?

The problem was first noted when travelling at 20 knots plus but remained after slowing. After the engine had been shut down for a few minutes it cooled immediately on restarting but overheated after speeding up.

I have checked filters etc. Thoughts are that the raw water impellor may be damaged.

Any other ideas?
