A couple of years ago a (female) crew member suggested that about half of the boat names she saw on the river (Hamble) would be better suited to a stripper than a boat. There are way too many examples but “moondancer”, “ miss-trie”, “sparkle” could all be either. I’m sure you get the idea. Since then on our way upriver, we have occasionally played the game of spotting boat names that are better suited to a stripper than a boat. Anyone else played the same and if so, what are your favourite?

Of course there's a story with any name like that.

Not quite in the theme of the OP but this always makes me laff.

My boat was christened 'Seattle Star' by her original owner - odd for a boat that'd never been west of Norfolk, but seems to fit the stripper category. I've abbreviated the name to 'Sea Star' which is still as bad. Her little tender is referred to as 'Prawn Star' but I thought it lacked taste to actually paint it on her transom.

When we were looking for our current boat, we looked over a Bavaria 37. She was called “Poletrix” and we quite liked her and the price she was going for. Held off actually making an offer and someone else got bought her. Then I became intrigued by the name and googled it. Turns out it was the name of a Southampton pole dancing club...

I've seen a lot of Naked Ladies' about.
Off topic, but prompted by the above post.
I have just finished reading Island Dreams by Gavin Francis (a Christmas present, not a book I would necessarily recommend).
I laughed out loud at the following extract from the log of the bird observatory on the Isle of May (in the Firth of Forth).

"September 1st 1947. A white form was seen on the rocks which on closer examination proved to be a naked woman. We thought it advisable to move on.
The party is agreed that should any more naked ladies be observed ... they should be ringed to discover if the same individuals visit the island year after year."
