How do you find moorings?

East Anglia is very big.... From Blakeney and Overy Staithe in the North to Burnham or the Roach in the South. All (*) of the rivers and estuaries seem to have: a) a marina b) swinging moorings c) drying moorings * "All", except everyone is different! - The Alde / Ore has no marina. - The...

    Dinghy/tender makers

We got our tender - fibreglass, carries 3 or a family of 4, can be rowed or out-board, with a decent (soft) rubbing strake around the gunwhale , and a rudder, daggerboard and sail for those odd days at an anchorage) from Heyland Marine, Bourne End on the Thames (between the M4 and M40). Its not...

    Antifoul a Necessity ?

I am thinking about whether to anti-foul the dinghy. It lives out of the water all year on a trolley. It is towed behind the yacht and is well used for 3 or 4 weekends a year and for 5 or 6 weeks in the summer. This is enough for growth to start to appear.

    Mast Fittings

The Holt-Allen web site is good for getting sizes of cleats and other fittings. There are then many on-line chandlers that will deliver things to you in 2 or 3 days. www.holtallen.co.uk www.purplemarine.com

Anyone have an idea on an outboard supplier?

If you are on the East Coast, Seamark Nunn (Felixstowe way) used to do good deals. www.seamarknunn.co.uk

    Pursuit Race Start Calculation

If you take a look at: http://www.burghfieldsc.org.uk/wednesdays/pursuit_board.htm you will see a table that we use at our club. Across the top are various race lengths (which have to be decided on before you start). Then down the side are the different boats. The numbers in the middle indicate...

    Forums or Fora? nm

Re: Forums It must be forums. It would only be forae if the Latins had had computers. On computers its all American or English if you are lucky. Talking about the Romans having computers: Driving along what was obviously an old Roman Road - straight as anything - we go over a railway bridge...

Rumour Control - Next years pricing

Re: Good first steps from MDL I think that Newhaven offers a facility where boats can be dry-sailed. They are kept ashore. You ring up on a Thursday, saying "Please launch tomorrow, I am going for a sail". They launch the boat and put it in an empty berth. You sail for the weekend, and then on...

    Any advice

Take a look at http://www.bewl-valley-sc.org.uk I believe their Optimist and Youth training takes place on a Saturday morning - but you can ring before hand and check. They have an established training section, and a very accomplished racing section for the good helms in Oppies. BUT be aware...

Some more stupid questions! Long post.

The bell on the GP14 comes from "the bells of Aberdovey". Which raises two further questions that I can't answer: 1. Why should the Aberdovey bells be important? 2. Why is the GP14 linked to Aberdovey?

    Weather sources

You can always go to www.MetCheck.com. They have 2, 10, 30 and 60 day forecasts. Accurate?? It must be, 'cos it says so here on my computer....

    Cruising Chutes

Putting it up is OK - you take your time and plan it carefully. Its the taking down that is more fun - it might need to be done quicker! We find that bearing away onto a dead run, so that the kite is fully blanketed, then someone on the foredeck can pull it down and gather it in, while the...

    Cruising Chutes

Re: 3 corners We have a block on a spare hole on the bow fitting, and the down-haul from the tack of the cruising chute goes through this, an then back to the cockpit - so you can pull it in and down or let it loose and fly up easily. In fact, the line just catches the navigation light unless...
