I changed to Y Insurance after I discovered that the Pants policy left 12% of my boat's value uninsured...

Cheaper to boot.

On what grounds do they do that? Pants seems to have a good reputation round here - I'm about to change to them myself...

But that only applies to the mast and spars, doesn't it?

No. Unless the whole boat is a total loss, any item over 10 years old is subject to the 30%. ie: drive your MAB into the quay wall and mangle the pulpit, that'll be 30% off...

Pants changed their policy a few years ago.

Interesting - I have a few years before that becomes a problem but I shall keep it in mind.

Barrie a Y Yacht insurance sounds like an interesting character.

One of the emails I received had some fluffy comment about not taking debit or cc card payments because 'Barrie doesn't like supporting bankers bonuses!'

I promptly forwarded this to my banking mate who had some interesting comments that YBW's swear filter wouldn't allow me to post.

I personally liked the approach and insured with them, if you don't mind printing your own documents and can find your cheque book to pay, it seems ok to me.

I pay Y via BACS, get the invoice & set up the payment 2 days before due, copy payment details to Claire, job done

The truth of it is more likely that Barrie does not wish to have a percentage-albeit a small one-deducted by the Card Services Provider.

If you are working to tight margins, it will make a difference.
