Which Iron?

I like to keep myself and my Ensign pressed and smart, what iron is suitable for on board use and is there such a thing as a folding ironing table?

Unnecessary. At sunset, fold neatly, and place under the cushion you use as a mattress. Have a few pints, doss down and sleep. In the morning your bodyheat and sweat will ensure a good finish.

Like the guy with a new hair transplant (from his oxters), it will look great, but smell rotten.

If you want it to go really straight, use a 2 Iron. On the other hand if you want it to pop up in the air, use a Pitching Wedge.

IIRC TCM showed the way for this to be done correctly on his trip to UK, and the report showed some appropriate ironing pictures.

It is very important to make sure that the ensign is a sewn one, and that the creases in the seams are at the correct angle. Instant starch doesnt really work, and the ultimate finish can only be done by a chinese laundry, although there are a few D-I-Y results worthy of mention. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Measure ensign and make mold to fit all round approx 5mm deep. Pour in clear resin to about half depth place ensign in mold fill mold with clear resin allow to set.
Remove Ensign using topping lift or small crane attach to suitable flag pole. This should be a minimum of 5 inches in diameter. You will never need to press it again it will also allow your ensign to outlast your boat.

What's all this value-based, ethical and moral stuff all about? Anyway, I retract the above. Having re-looked at the site, I found that the leader took the laundry basket up on a classic HVS 5a.

Anyaway, the bad news is that Minnie Sgeir, who used to climb short crag routes with her dad about 12-15 years ago, has started climbing again. Climbing walls first, and now even venturing onto crags. Led her first crag V Diffs or Severes last weekend apparently. One of your old south coast stamping grounds I believe.

I'm starting to feel like my parents felt: "Be careful", "Give us a phone call" ........ etc etc.
