Which Iron?

Re: My wife\'s an expert at this

According to the tables with the Moulinex JetSteam in a force 6 and above you should hold the iron no more than 4" from the target.
No wonder raggies are known to be scruffs.

Re: My wife\'s an expert at this

Yes, the staysail luff was a little careless. Mask helps with her dreadful halitosis, but I let her take it off whilst downwind in F7 and above.

Re: You look sweet talk abt neat, you look dapper from your napper to

Whilst the late great Lonnie Donnegan indeed recorded Any Old Iron it also appears on Chas & Dave's wonderful sing-a-long album Christmas Jamboree Bag (1981) along with other Cockney classics.

There is also the traditional Irish rendition on The Chieftans 'Irish Evening' CD with Roger Daltry of the Who singing on the chorus.

Most interestingly it is the missing song and dance routine from Mary Poppins.

Originally in the 'rooftops of London' scene Dick Van Dyke was meant to sing Any Old Iron whilst doing a lovable rendition of the Lambeth Walk. The scene was allegedy shot over twenty times.

Whilst Van Dyke's choreography was second to non (he was actually shadowing Lionel Blair who film buffs will already know appears under a nom de dance, for contractual reasons, as third sweep) he was unable to get his accent right for the tricky fourth verse.

It was generally felt that the pathos inherent in the marriage to Selina Brown where the subject having put on his Sunday trousers on 'back to front' amongst the congregation the 'dials begin to crack' would be offset by laughter at Van Dyck's accent.

This segment of film was replaced by the 'Step in Time' sequence and the rest, as they say, is history.

Coo. Now we've all learned something. You're addicted to teaching. Better shut up now for fear of banishment to lounge.

Some might suggest.....

that this might be a more appropriate forum.

However, i can report that we carry two irons, one 12volt from a camping shop and the other a folding 240v one from an airport shop. We also have a folding table top ironing board which slips down the side of a hanging locker. My step-mother bought it, I think from the Betterware man.

Re: Caravanning?

Although some forumites might find it hard to believe the caravan used by Dick Van Dyke whilst filming Chitty Chitty Bang Bang etc. etc. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
