Well my wife died suddenly and unexpectedly from a stroke a few months before our 25th. Not something I cope with well even now two years on

David,

I am really sorry to hear that; my girlfriend's late husband died from a stroke, to her credit she converted the dining room with a hoist etc and looked after him for two years.

I hope it's not the wrong thing to say, but by the descritions something quicker might have been kinder.

I know that's little consolation to you, and I hope you find some sort of happiness again.

Strokes are at least as horrible as heart attacks and do not get the publicity they require, hence I suppose the FIRE ad's on TV now but they only go so far.

Why a First Aid course including strokes is not mandatory for all school pupils and say people learning to drive is a mystery to me, our sailing club runs such courses - run by experienced doctors & nurses - now and again.

I hope you begin to find happiness again, I'm sure your wife would have wanted that.

It was our 25th earlier this month. We went to India for 10 days (first holiday without the kids... ever!). She got a silver bracelet and a matching ring, each inlaid with some bloody hefty, quality emeralds ...

I got a bottle of this...

Obviously a young upstart. We get to 50 next January but don't have any plans yet. It is hard to get into a boaty mood in January, though we did spend our wedding evening at the Earl's Court boat show. We may have looked at some boats but I don't remember.

Hmmm, Boy Service clearly doesn't count-excluding the 2 years Apprenticeship, only our 44th this December 5th.

It is hard to celebrate the ones in between the 0's in winter-last year,we had a longer lie in, got texts from the two boys, then we went to our favourite local town's Chinese for the Lunch Special offer, then a stroll round the shops and home again for a quiet evening in together in front of the fire and telly.

Both actually enjoyed it, as very relaxed, and just 'Us' time together-no evening meetings, e-mails, phone calls, etc, etc.

Unlike our 40th-Half the 100+ guests to our 40th were snowed/iced in at home or at the Club-the Band made it OK though:D
