Just to explain the cup is filled with grease and typically you will only get a few turns of the cup thread efore you feel resistance of the bulk of grease. As you force the tightening you force grease into the bearing or in this case cable. Just force a bit in and leave for a period (weeks or months) then tighten some more to lubricate cable some more. ol'will

Damn! Damn, damn damn DAMN! I wanted exactly this for my fwd control 33C morse cables, 8m long, seize up and fail every year or two. Wonder if they are made for the 33C?

But then see here:
lubricating morse cables

so I'm not so sure.......
I always scrounge morse cables forom the skip to extract the s/s wire, which is very useful. I have an awful lot of it, which suggests a need.

Wow, what is it that makes your cables fail so soon?. Some of mine are 30 years old.

Well in truth the cables from the wheelhouse to engine room below, 2-3m, and both ends indoors, never failed in maybe 28 years. It was the ones between wheelhouse and fwd control cabinet, 8m long, they had to operate the aft control in series to the engine. Given they have rubber washers round the inner, don't really blame water ingress, and they were in a ventilated box. They would stiffen and then one day the tubular outer at the end would cripple and seize. You would see these in the skip almost every day.
I was told on here that they should be fitted with curves at 9in radius, and not a long sweep, which is what I did. I assume the inner cut into the casing on the curves.
I also wonder if they should have been clipped up tight and not zip tied to pipes etc.
I once found this had happened after 16 miles in from the Lizard just as I was heading for the LB in Newlyn, and found myself stuck in gear.
