I paid £500 for mine.

Silent and simple and cosy.

What is the future of these do people think? I have no clue what is happening with fossil fuels.

I still have a store of red diesel for mine but realise it is difficult to buy red now - it will still work on white of course.

You did well. Enjoy it. I love mine and have no problem at all buying red diesel from marinas and, as it is used for heating, you can buy it at the much lower duty rate. You could use central heating oil. There is no real alternative if you want to heat your cabin without using a fossil fuel.

We’ve got a diesel blown heater like many, many others. It’s OK.

On the “must” list for our next boat is a diesel drip stove like a Taylor’s/Newport/refleks. They just look far more cozy and silent

I am thinking of both; the drip stove is quiet and keeps the saloon gently warm but it can play silly beggars if used at sea as the flue is sensitive to downdrafts, and the blown air one warms the place up quickly.

Yes, I had a Chinese warm air diesel- noisy, current draw from batteries ...

The Taylor’s drip feed is simply cosy.

My Sigmar has a visible flame, very cosy. Would have gone for a Refleks but too large with visible flame for the boat. Not drip feed, has float valve IMG_2967.jpeg

Taylor’s Paraffin heater for me, can be used when sailing. Not had an issue with down drafts. No electric use just the gentle hiss of the of the burner and afew pumps on the pump to keep it pressurised.

What about ventilation ... combustion gases ? Interested in your setup ....
They have a little 28mm flu, it seems to let all the combustion gas out. We always have one hatch open a touch to not been to concerned.

Very little smell, although I do recommend CO2 monitor just incase.

I bought a silicone T to go on vent as the stainless one is kind of expensive.

Some say they are difficult to light but once I got the hand of it I found it easy. If they play up (mine came with boat unused for 5 years) you need to be hands on to fix it or pay £££.

They are not cheap to start from scratch.
Paraffin heater TAYLOR'S 079K

Interesting Taylor’s do not list any on web page at the moment.

Er... being slightly pedantic... diesel is invariably a fossil fuel :)

Here's mine:

For ventilation there is always the forehatch raised a couple of inches, a hit-and-miss ventilator in the companionway door, two mushroom vents in the main cabin, plus draughts around the companionway doors.

My LPG system obviously has a flue vent on deck ....

Seen as a Top Hat to left of the solar panel. Change to another heat system would probably be fine to that subject of course to the diameter of flue.

For ventilation - can be seen 3 vents ... and I have considered swapping one out to fit a solar powered vent .... I have a SunVent that is same diameter ...

Agree. I also prefer the Diesel fired Taylors as it avoids having another fuel source on board (assuming you have a diesel engine), just a little pot of meths for starting. Mine is fed from the main diesel tank, works well when under sail and I can leave it running all night. I overcame the initial problem with downdraft by increasing the length/height of the chimney. I have the original handbook if you need it.
