is there a certain amount of ambivalence in these posts ? OK, it's great fun for the specialist boat recognition people, but given the brouhaha in these forums in recent days, is it appropriate to focus on the display of the human body to underpin the advertising of boats ?
I have asked Louise about this before privately, and she did respond with a reasoned argument, but IMHO the Spot the Boat comp is dated and ineffective.
If i might borrow your thread slightly Louise, does anyone know the location of this shot (off the Sarnico website, Sarnico 60 model)? I'm looking for some good boat photo spots and would like to know if this is near me. The boat is wearing an Italian ensign but has a Monaco courtesy flag (not very visible in this shot, but visible in others in the same set on the website). I don't think this photo is in Monaco, but it might be close by? Anyone know? Thanks
Can't be 100% sure but the rock formations look very similar to south of La Nap heading towards St Trop around the area of Agay. Lots of rocky bits there so maybe ??
Yep that's what i thought. The rocks in the picture are more rounded/smoother than on the Cote D'Azur. Bit strange to fly a monaco c/flag that far away though...
Cala Lazarina gets my vote.
Re. the courtesy flag, I don't think there's anything but aesthetic behind the choice of what to show in those pics.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have published on the web a boat that according to IT regulation should be seized on the spot, because it doesn't show the registration number...

Ah, thanks Mapis. Lavezzi isalnd, right? Blimey, I've anchored there several times and didn't spot it, but yeah i think you're right. The smoothed rocks look right. I have only ever anchored off the beach, but I think you are referring to the tiny Cala to 150m to the SW of the beach? I've never taken the boat in there (scary rocks!) but I'll give it a go.
Here's another pic, looking right into that spot. I think the Sarnico is right up into the cala, beyond the rocks above the yellow buoy. This photo is looking to the SW, and the Sarnico photographer is looking to the SE. Right?
Frankly I'm not 100% sure, not been there recently.
It could also be Cala della Chiesa (the other bay in the NW part of the island).
In any case, I can't think of any other place in the Med resembling that pic more than Lavezzi surroundings.
PS: I'd strongly recommend to choose a day with no wind, and a careful advance exploration with the rib, before bringing the boat between those rocks, anyway.

For sure Mapis!
I'm changing my mind. I have looked at my other photos and the Lavezzi rocks are mostly silver grey, not much red. I think it might be 60nm north, up around Girolata/Porto/Calanques in W/NW Corsica, where the rocks are smooth and more red. I'm going there for the Easter long weekend, so will try to find it...

I read this post with great interest and it immediately struck a chord. I`ll be honest, I`m not going to lie - there were a couple of words in there that I didn`t fully understand but the general gist, the nub of the whole post was spot on.
In all this doom and gloom isn`t it about time we saw a bit more totty in the mag. I pay bloody good money each month and I don`t think it`s asking the world to see if IPC couldn`t run to a couple of old sorts casting off their worldly chattels in the name of art.
Don`t think me sexist either by the way, if they want to include the odd half page on curtain fabrics a couple of times a year I`m happy to turn a blind eye in the name of balancing things out.
I took the liberty of asking "aerial" from "For your Eyes only" in Southampton and she`s well up for it, err I mean available. She won`t need travel money either because they are based just next to the Town Quay. So a friend told me.
If you need a boat or a good oil man I`m always available and can be there - anywhere - at the drop of a hat. I would even be prepared to waive any appearance fees for the day.
As for using birds, I mean young ladies, to influence future purchases don`t be silly. Blokes are not that stupid. Although I`m convinced owning a Boat does make you more attractive to the opposite sex. Just look at the owners in all the brochure shots. Surrounded by it !
Before you all jump down my throat I am of course only joking..........
I know Aerial`s name is really spelt Ariel /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
