Antifoul outdrives - Lift and Hold

HI All,

a quick question if I may.

This is my first season running a larger boat that is kept in the water all year round. I am due to have a lift out next week as the drives in particular have furred up considerably, despite being used every week or two since the November Launch, and my top speed is down 6 knts / 300 rpm.

is the working consensus that a 90 min / 2 hr lift and hold is too short for any kind of antifouling to be realistically re-applied to the outdrives? The hull seems to be in reasonably good shape.

wont dry in that time, appart from getting the drives clean

The ring anodes and bar anode on your drives (I’m assuming you are not shafts) will need replacing. No chance in the timescale you outline

perfect thanks - I presumed that would be the case. I presume most just go the 2nd half year without any antifoul on the drives, and suffer marginally increased fouling? although we will soon be back in the autumn / winter so suspect the rate of fouling will be slower ?

will the anode's really need doing after 8 months?

Certainly every year but depends of course on what they look like when the boat comes out. You can see on the day, although you can possibly raise the leg enough and have a look (a lot easier in the clear Med)
