That is a beautiful sight.
That is a beautiful sight.
If you buy a yacht that no side decks because the cabin extends out to the sides of the boat, point out to her:If we cannot walk safely from the cockpit to the bows the wife’s not havin it.
Looks a bit sporty?
Perfect,can I have one please?

You could stroll forward with your crew, arm in arm.
But if you want to walk, rather than crouch, holding onto a grabrail on the coachroof top, then the grabrail needs to be near waist hight. That means the coachroof is going to stand so high above the deck that, in a short boat, it will be disporportionate.A good sidedeck is one thing, but having a decent grab rail whilst walking on it is just as important.
I think it’s ok now- it’s gone from Politics to History?Oh dear, that's this thread doomed.
Criticism of Brexit or organised religion, whether express or implied, is verboten here.
That's the way I'm thinking.I would have substantial inboard rails that you could hang onto in safety,
Some of our current politicians will be history sooner than they originally planned, me thinks..I think it’s ok now- it’s gone from Politics to History?
That seems to me to be dangerous in that if one's grip slipped one would not have the secondary option of the guard rail. True one could be hanked on but that is not really a "safe" option. That's the way I'm thinking.
That’s what we have, effectively. We have substantial rails on the coachroof, which, when you are on the trampolines, is at gripping height. Good for clipping the spinnaker launch bag to, as well.A good sidedeck is one thing, but having a decent grab rail whilst walking on it is just as important.
Simple fix - I have a length of 10 or 12mm made fast to the mast twixt boom and winch - tensioned up and clove hitched to the baby stay and then led down to a frd cleat . By the time it is too low to be of use I have the inner forestay to hold on to. Once I'm past the mast I walk down the almost middle. Good for clipping on to as well.A good sidedeck is one thing, but having a decent grab rail whilst walking on it is just as important.
What does safely mean in this context? Is there a minimum deck width required, a minimum handrail height? Minimum gap in shrouds? If we cannot walk safely from the cockpit to the bows the wife’s not havin it.
I think what she means is not doing a little foot se along a arrow side deck and negotiating the rigging, getting older and less agile feet wise? What does safely mean in this context? Is there a minimum deck width required, a minimum handrail height? Minimum gap in shrouds?
Can you give an example of any boat in the world in your price range that meets this ethereal requirement?
Or is it just another reason for not buying a boat ?
