The only Saturday I can see with a suitable 9am HW Portsmouth is 6th April. Is that OK with everyone?

Great stuff. Now I have signed up, where are we going and how long do i need to get there and back

IIRC we aimed for a spring tide so that HW was around noon. The idea being that we could use the falling tide in the afternoons when going West and the rising tide in the mornings to go East.
The only problem is the real risk of wind over tide at Hurst.
So, springs around that time are:
29th March (Easter Weekend)
12 April
27th April
11th May
26th May (Sprint Bank Holiday)
10th June
I think March is too early. I for one will not be ready by then. That said, right now I dont think that I'll be back on the water and ready to go before August

Also I was thinking that it might be a nice change to meet for the first night in Lymington - as there are a few forumites who might like to come along and say hello.
Let me have some feedback and I will start to call around for berthing options.

Prefer not Bank Holiday weekends as everywhere to eat will rammed but, other than that, no preference. Boat can be in the water at 24hrs notice. As this year we will probably make a long weekend of the occasion.

I should be able to make any dates from 1st April, maybe able to get the boat in a bit before if needed. I WILL be there, too good an opportunity to miss for a first proper sail. I'm getting myself and the boat primed for it

No the car was withdrawn from sale, he realised it's worth in rarity terms AND I was offered a mooring in Itchenor last week so game back on Going to get a cheaper 1960's SAAB 2 Stroke model, not as desireable BUT more spares and more practical although I will still kiss the ground at my destination!

my old boss had such a SAAB when in Cyprus in the 1960's, as I recalled he liked it and it had some sort of freewheel / braking feature ?
Maybe best for PM's or the lounge...anyway re boats variety is obviously the spice of your life, the phrase ' quit while you're ahead ' springs strongly to mind !

Apparently; news to me.
As Russell and PhillM are indisposed I've been asked to look at dates; first I need to invest in a new almanac !
I'll have a look and get back to you all ASAP; initial feeling is that April 6th is too early for a lot of boats to be ready, but I do agree with the sentiment that the best weather seems to happen early in the season nowadays...

much as I like the sound of your phone ( that didn't come out right, did it ?! ) I'd prefer to sit down with the almanac and look at the times and flows along the route etc.
I may have done the trip a lot before but I suddenly feel less gung-ho when it might inconvenience other people !
As long as the snow holds off on Saturday morning I'll grab the Good Book and come up with a suggestion ASAP.
