Actually we go to north Norfolk quite a lot - Fulham by the sea don't they call it - but you are right, we always make sure we've plenty of fuel and provisions in the car and lock all doors before we cross the county boundary and stop for nothing until we reach the sanctuary of Burnham Market.

As one of the younger dudes to hang out here, I have to say most of my friends and I will be depressed if Bush gets in, it astounds me that people trust him enough for another 4 years, ho hum :-(

Jimi, As far as the Lib/Dems are concerned their leadership, Kennedy and Menzies (both Scots), are useless and wouldn't even make junior directors of a little company with only 2 employees. I am also suspicious of their leader's alcoholic record.

Whether you like it or not, IMHO the only viable alternative to the B-liar in charge at present and his thieving chancellor (both Scots) and illiterate deputy is to vote for Michael Howard and the Tory party. All other votes would be wasted in a General Election.

I certainly agree with you there Chris!

It's interesting; my first (personal) U.S. office was in Columbus, Ohio and now I have an interest at Houston, Texas. In general, people are polite but in reality, they couldn't give a damn what I, or anyone else for that matter, thinks.

Just, as you say, like Salop and Norfolk !

Concerning the Grauniad initiative: I sympathise with the robust defence put forward (how would British voters take to being advised by readers of Le Monde or Die Zeit?), but I have to say that if the vulgarity and aggressiveness displayed in these responses is typical of how the US of A educates its citizens and then exports via its soldiers, diplomats and businessmen, then we are in a sorry way indeed.

I know haow you feel and can sympathise; but as someone who spends a lot of time in Texas, there are a lot of youger people there who support Pres. Bush and see him as something a bit different, i.e. a man of belief and principle - which, with few but notable exceptions, is unusual, nay, radical in the U.S. As I say, it's difficult for us to comprehend . . .

Re: None change whatsoever

eh?

Maybe you've got a point. But, I think in general I'm right.

That of course was a change for the worse!

Personally, I don't think Bush would recognise a principle if it came up and whacked him over the head. However, that's nothing new in a US President. What worries me about Bush is that he is plainly a moron, deeply in thrall to vested interests and that he, and the remainder of the population of the USA, obviously don't care what the rest of the world think about them, or understand the impact of their behaviour on everyone else and the fact that, with power, comes responsibility.

Similar attitude to that of the British Empire in the 19th century, and therefore likely to come to the same end?

Rant over; fireproof clothing on.

"Presumably the Guardian has the editorial decision as to which e-messages are shewn . . . ?"

Fair point! (but not, I think, sufficient)

I actually am of the opinion that rather than having a federal United STates of Europe created to balance the power of the USA . It would be best if the US were to demerge into several independent sovereign states.

Iv'e read all the post's to pres....I am glad Bush Has been re-elected..The American people had to send a clear msg to the world that they are behind Bush..also at the present time it is better for the UK with Blair Bush relationship....things could have been tricky for Blair-Kerry senario...with Bush getting another 4 years it may give him some time to get some domestic's sorted....and will also give Blair time to tackle the US envoironment issue's...

Similar to business you strike up a relationship with a buyer, just as things get going and looking rosey he gets the sack or moves on, the whole process starts again or they look for another supplier and all the good will you have given go's out the window!!!

Well that's what I think.....

The World Series

Just heard some talking head on the radio saying that despite the high turnout usually favouring the Dems, this time it didn't because the evangelical churches turned out their members in huge numbers.

So its official. Fundamentalist Christians vs Fundamentalist Moslems. Funny thing is that they share the same god.

Things'll get much worse before they get slightly better. What an aberration this period in history will be seen as when it's looked back on in a few decades' time.

For the record, Ming Campbell is a barrister (one of the top QC's in Scotland) and a former captain of Britain's athletics team. If you regard him as useless you plainly don't believe that opposition politicians should hold the Government to account.

Look on the bright side... On R4 this morning the US treasury secretary was saying that to make any inroads in the Billions of $ budget deficit the US would have to devalue their currency by around 30% over the next 4 years.

Its pretty reasonable already...

Think of all those bargain boats...plus it'll be cheaper to holiday in Hawaii than Benidorm!
