I am keen to restore and use a high speed ex RAF / military power boat. I was recently taken by a 41.5' Seaplane tender but she was sold. It wetted my appetite and I now know that I would like to restore such a craft. So would be very grateful for any info on where I might find one....Thanks Iain

There is a seaplane tender for sale on the Hamble! At least it has a for sale sign on it. Don't know if the same one you were looking at and just forgotton to take the sign off!

Check out Ebay. There's an ex-RAF launch on the Boats/Watercraft page.
If you are looking for a basket case for restoration you might try the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine (Clyde). They had an ASR launch on the hard which had been gifted to them, but nothing had been done with her last time I was there.

There are 2 sea-plane tenders that I know about for sale at the moment, both Brooks 40 footers, I think. The one on the hamble already mentioned, and another called 'Zeta'. Have a look at www.boats-for-sale.com and do a quick search for the word "Tender" up to £15,000 and it should come up top of the list.

I was thinking along similar lines myself, but it looks like I'm going for a 40' converted pinnace.

There is a beautiful 65' RAF pinnace which is pretty much as decommissioned for a quid less than 30k in Gibralatar. It was a bit too much for me to handle.... (I realised when reality began to bite)

Robin, I have looked on the boats and outboards projects site....can't seem to find the vessel you mention...I wonder if I missed it? Although things don't usually get removed from that site that quickly....do you have any further clues on that one? Can you still see it on the site?? Sounds very interesting
cheers Iain

Hi Iain - you are right it has been removed. I have been back and searched and it has gone. The opnly clue I have is it was Northumberland which is a lot of coast!Saw one on the "Classic" page that also looked interesting whilst I was searching - 1954 35ft ex naval launch with twin Foden diesels sound hull etc needing refit £5000 - that is a couple of pages back in the "classic" section advert submitted 17th March.
Good luck with your quest
Robin

Hyperion is for sale.. She is a restored fast launch, Derby Winner class Triple Perkins Diesels. There is a link to her on BMPB trust (is that the name?.. anyway mentioned elsewhere on this post).I was watching her restoration last year and was suprised to see her for sale as the owner didnt look like he was in for the short haul.

I was very interested and thought about her solidly for a week!, but would mean selling my Halberdier....Ive even got the phone nr on my moby if you want.

This boat apparently was at the D day landings with King George and the Royal enterage aboard...just a few days after June 6th 1944.

She is along side at Wicor Marine Porchester, quite serious money but I wouldnt go near one of these boats that was a basket case... remember they werent built to last!!

Ill be down at Wicor in a few days if you want pics or anything.

I'd love that boat...........Regds Nick

Nick, Thanks for that, I have seen Hyperion when she was in Poole some years ago and, like you, I'd love to have her but cannot stretch to that kind of money, Cheers Iain
