Bought a Never splashed Colvic Countess 33 on eBay, Looking for infos

No doubt, when the time comes, Greg will design a newer, better knot, :)

Sometimes the Old ones did know a thing or two, Bowlines for instance ( Lays de Guia in Portuguese) are used with an extra loop to block and pull for ease of untying from dock or mooring. No need to reinvent the wheel on that.. seriously …
Now .. making a Mast where have I got those plans

I'm totally misunderstood.. by then.. I will be working on the NEXT type of drive, the Cosmic Wave Rider (theory says it should be possible should we manage to decipher antimatter for the propulsion unit. Cooling seems to be the snafu … )

There's already boats out there with a working warp drive. You may not have heard of them as it is all a bit hush hush, but next time you hear a whoosh go by look out for an Anderson 22. They look red when viewed from astern. You wouldn't want to be a mere follower of old technology like that.

If you've got some time google A Gentleman's yacht and the associated SA page. Set out to do something similar to what you're doing but with a Westerly Centaur, i.e back to bare hull and improve the original including sailplan (although he decided to stick with a diesel engine for propulsion)

Top quality work from a real craftsman and a great read. I was following the progress for years.

I have read some of it before, great work, thanks for the link, going to give it a new peek :encouragement:

Soo THAT's what it was ! I knew it. (calling the academy of conspiracy theorists "scientists" with the "news" hiding under the desk from the black helis and wearing a foil hat to prevent thought seepage into outer space dedicated reader satellites )

No, I thought it was a different one, this one I missed, GREAT workmanship and I like his workarounds. He did forgo vacuum/steam forming for the round work but that added an extra layer of work on forming creating the jigs. We loved the all thing, Thanks for the link ! were still looking.

UPDATE. Finally getting lifted! And so it begins.

As all good things must come to an end, our training for the World Championships of Thumb Twiddling has abruptly been halted. Thumb Twiddlers the World over will mourn for years to come. But Oddity's hull has finally been given a date to rise from 36 years of obscurity and stand as a boat. Due to the lack of space around us and the age of the logs holding her upright, working on her was a complicated exercise in dodging masts on the way and boats a bit close to her. Bit of a mission to get to her, in the lines of a game of Sailboat Tetris but the staff at Thornham marina seem not to be daunted by the task.
On Friday she will be lifted and moved across to the other side of our lane to give us more clearance and access so we can finally start getting to the fun parts of owning a sailboat. Great doses of grinding, sanding fiberglassing your hair to your scalp etc.
Next the removal from the ocean of bits of mushy ply whith foam and disasorted bits of every kind. Then next week we will have George Clooney dressed as a Roman declare " Let the games begin" ...or not and we just simply start grinding away

Congrats on the progress. What are you doing to support the hull during the lift? Or has it been determined none is necessary?

Normally, for a completed boat internal structure ensures the hull maintains its shape during lifting and propping. I believe for incomplete boats that are out of the mould the builders often have temporary internal support they can place in the hull.

The big risk that the hull is propped up with some distortion and you build the internals to match that, then the hull changes shape on the water.

VERY good point. Tottaly escaped my attention In between the myriad of things at the moment. The distortion is a real possibility. Only thing that comes to mind is supporting the hull from the inside with some timber framing.

Bulkheads? That is one of their major purposes.

Agree, 36 years ago and when they were yet ply. To be honest I did look into some support framing for the hull then forgot in the middle of all the thousand things we need to do. The bulkheads are rotten to mush around the base and the only 2 that are doing something are the ones from the heads to the galley and the other to the forward cabin. The main one has a rotten base but sides and top are still good, that being the reason I left those 2 there. When I say rotten, I mean MUSH, a squidgy squishy substance of foul smell. I’m afraid tis going to have to be framing. Possibly having to delay till I can finish the framing. Damn... so close.

Re: UPDATE. Finally getting lifted! And so it begins.

Does anyone know of any smaller uk companies producing resins?
Gregg, if you're looking for advice or have questions like that you are really better starting a new thread. I know you might be going for some sort of record on this one but you will get more responses.

Spiro, to be honest we did not even think of that. Oddity is more our only focus not the Forum. But having said that between Facebook, YouTube and Forum, keeping things to a minimum is a blessing. "some" help WE actually have absolutely no need for. (i.e. sell the boat on eBay etc.) My posts are mostly either updates or “political” answers to thread thrashing.
I do have my answers, for people read here and either PM here or on Facebook and like today, even in person, like that, they need not respond to a “few” that feel insulted we did not resell the boat on eBay.
We’ll post our updates till the boat is finished for a few people that I respect and are following the work we are doing. We’ll try and be patient with the “help” some seem intent on giving.

But since you address the subject, today was the third time someone that reads or posts on the forum was apologetical at some of the attitudes (read Help) we received. It’s a Forum there are always some apples past their prime.

Any trash talk does NOT bother us in the least. Were still building a boat.

Re: UPDATE. Battery Bank first batch received.

There is a good reason for posting another thread on enquiries such as your one on resins. Forums are fundamentally an information exchange, and it makes things a lot easier if questions are posted as a thread, not just for you to get more replies, but for anyone else coming along later to find the thread by name when they have a similar enquiry :encouragement:

Some of your posts are very arrogant. people post to try and offer help and advice, you might not decide to take that help or advice, but statement like ""some" help WE actually have absolutely no need for" is pretty damn rude in my book.

To have a single, long, thread posting the progress with the build is fine and perfectly normal. To put all of your questions on multiple topics within a single thread is neither fine or normal. How many replies did you get about winches ? How many about resins, or batteries or the other myriad of different topics. There is a huge wealth of knowledge on this forum, i'd suggest you make better use of it.

Could I trouble you to link the post /posts in which I am being arrogant and rude to people giving advice? I would gladly offer an apology for any oversight on my part.
Could I also trouble you for NOT linking the multitude of posts that have no bearing on my search for info’s on the Colvic Countess and any of the issues I came here to discuss?
May I be so bold as to state that you may be confusing me for someone that does not know the distinction between HELP, ADVICE, and patronising and dismissive views or behaviours.
To confuse my POLITE way of saying to those people that I have NO NEED of such behaviour NOR do I think it is correct on their part to act in such a way, is baffling to say the least. Stating that I am “RUDE” not to take that “advice” is curious and food for thought.

I welcome any view, I respect and appreciate any HELP I can get and is offered even if misguided.
What I have no use for is Patronising, dismissive or any other type of behaviour DISGUISED as HELP.
WE (myself Phil and my Wife) STRONGLY ENCOURAGE people NOT TO POST any such “help”, not here, not at the Pub, and even on the Planet. IT is NOT in order to be dismissive of others, It is not in order to be Patronising and it is not in order to generaly attack any different views, races or creeds. (and me thinking this was easy to undertand.)

You do have a very good point on the rest! And that’s help WE actually appreciate as it helps us getting were we are going. Thank you.

IT's a very good point. To be honest with so much going on we did not even think about it.
