Afternoon. Just had a quote from yard to repair some storm damage to my gel coat and toe rail. About 4500. Plus another 2200 to polish the whole hull.
Insurer (seems reasonable) says they only cover the polishing of the proportion of the hull which has been repaired.
So if that were say 25% then I’m out of pocket by 1650 and I wouldn’t have had my hull polished this year (she’s an old boat and I don’t need her to be perfect).
And I’m also down a set of flights to sail her back to avoid yard storage fees so I can put her back in her (prepaid) marina spot.
If I have the polish, pay the flights and the excess I’m a bit over 2 grand down on an insured risk.
Options for me are:
Skip the polish but it might look funny where it’s been repaired
Suck it up, pay for the polish and feel good about having a pretty boat and try not to wince every time someone parks next to me with dirty fenders…
What do the wise people here think?
