The Final Voyage
Thank you Scuttlebutters for finding the quote. King Erik of Sweden, alias "Windycap" was the chap I was searching for.
Over and Out,
Mrs. Pugwash
Dear Scuttlebutters who from time to time, may read posts from Pugwash,
His poor old ship has been in dock for a while, having a bad case of barnacles dealt with. Alas the marine engineers at the Royal Marsden Hospital were unable to sort out the careening problem. We are preparing his...
One of the side effects of the chemotherapy I have just started is hands very sensitive to cold. When I grabbed a bottle of milk out of the fridge yesterday my hand came out buzzing as if gripping an electric fence. This will be awkward when rubbing down the boat's hull shortly, heaving on jib...
WHAT A LOT OF ILL GRACE. Why shouldn't the man ask if somebody can help him out? You don't have to do it if you don't want to. I have been a full-time freelance writer/photographer for 50 years. I'd help if I could.

Look at Whangarei, a small city halfway between Auckland and the Bay of islands. Tidal river port, perfectly sheltered. Great communications (buses and air to Auckland). Not as crowded and ritzy as Auckland. Boatyard and lovely bays nearby with lots of 'baches' or summer houses pronounced...
Thanks for all those neat suggestions. I had no idea it would be so easy. Elsewhere I found a suggestion for Brasso which might work. I'll get busy at the weekend, knees on the deck, bum in the air. Soft softly at first…
Have just renewed the cracked and splintered perspex in my doghouse windows and what a delight it is - l can actually see out.
Last weekend I wielded the varnish brush and in a perfect drying wind managed to do everything until the rising wind blasted thistledown off the fields. But this was...
s I understand it these are lifejackets (not buoyancy aids) with BSI Kitemark. They are new so it's unlikely that the crutch straps just disappeared. I will check them again when I go down to the boat at the weekend and post further.
Of course the rubber dinghy solution is best and a good...
I have always paid a lot of attention to posts and magazine stories about man overboard drills and I have a system figured out on my boat for using the spinnaker haliard and winch etc to get a person on board again.
Last weekend I sailed in the Solent (beautiful!) with my two grandchildren aged...
THANKYOU...
Huge thanks to all for sympathetic and helpful replies. To answer some of the points raised …
'Minor' arthritis (osteo) was not diagnosed specifically for fingers but i have had a similar but less critical problem in knees and hips, so far keeping it at bay.
It's not just sheets...
I'm going on 70, reasonably fit and active, but my fingers are giving me hell. The knuckles are stiff and the flesh is tight so I can't clench a rope. Especially after pulling weeds, wielding a paintbrush and other stuff requiring lots of finger action. And the fingers are getting very weak...
