Bleeding / Priming Eberspacher fuel line

IMHO while you are at it if the system has not been used for yonks it has to be worth digging out the horrible little filter on the tank side of the pump entry, then either reverse blast it with a WD40 squirter to remove any crud or fit a new one.

    engine oil change

IMHO, I would go for the lower quantity and readjust your dipstick. In old money that is almost four gallons, which is plenty for such an engine. I ran earlier (1962 ) old Fords and because of the 15 or so degree installation angle oil ran out of the back main bearing seals if the recomended 22...

    Underwater lights

I too was rather mystified with underwater lights, and was wondering where you get waterproof newspapers to read, but then I do enjoy watching fish, so can understand it. Not sucha daft idea maybe. Probably nice for an evening swim too. What surprised me most was the number of posts, some good...

    Lowstoft next week

Oulton Broad, the place that started my enjoyment, some may say obsession, with motorboats. I believe the LOBMBRC ( I htink that is right but happy to be corrected) is the oldest motorboat racing club in the country having been started over 100 years ago. Anyway it was their custom to race...

Another reason why Raggies might think Moboers are twats

'As long as they don't spill your G&T all you need do is take another sip and let it wash over you (the stress not the G&T). If they do spill your G&T then you should give them a full broadsides! ' Amen to that:encouragement:

Another reason why Raggies might think Moboers are twats

To pmagowan, I disagree partly on your first comment, agree mostly sailing boats dont kick up similar wash, but not always, I have seen a 35ft yacht hard under power creating the same problem passing much too close to anchored craft. As for us giving in to this boorish behavoir, no way! Again in...

    Poss engine prob/dirty hull?

Gosh 8 weeks+ from being antifouled. Is it really fouled up that quick? My opinion of antifouls is not very high since they stopped us using TBT, but even I reckon they work for at least 10 weeks, but I make sure my boat is used a minimum of every other week. Fuel cost now demands we keep boats...

    Almost lost steering, oil leak

Very fortunately you and yours were all ok, but whover left steering pipes loose was being very irresponsible. Had the failure happened under slightly different conditions you could have had a complete steering failure with God knows what consequences. Nobody does these things deliberately but...

    Perfect weekend finale

That is a great recommendation, good timing as somebody last week in Cowes suggested the Hut was well worth a visit. It is going on the list. Thanks for the post:encouragement:

Another reason why Raggies might think Moboers are twats

Absolutely agree, it is this kind of total disregard for others that hacks p[eople off. In this instance The marina would confirm whether or not his boat is berthed there or not. I dont know which particular rule he is breaking, but surely it comes under where a skipper must navigate his vessel...

    Fuel Starvation

Spot on Bandit. It should be a criminal offence to sell a fuel tank without a/, a drain tap, b/. a removable plate big enough to get your arm in so it can be inspected and cleaned properly. I drain and clean mine every fourth year. All suppliers tell you their fuel is clean, but just maybe the...

    What have you found floating

Had you reported a shipping container there is a fair chance they would have asked the same question. Isn't it odd when people ask questions to which most normal people find the answers 100% obvious. No doubt you reported the incident starting with your boat name and size and type of vessel...

Parsons Pike non starter. Marinised Ford 4D

Well done Chris G. You have saved yourself maybe £200, maybe more, and now you at least have a good idea of what you should expect to find if you take the side panel off another Simms pump. That is what our Forum is for. :encouragement:

Parsons Pike non starter. Marinised Ford 4D

I had engines with similar pumps at one time and had 5 out of 6 squirting. Remove the pump side plate, which enables you to see what is going on. A camshaft, that you cant see, pushes on plungers that you can see, and a spring sits on each plunger. Possible causes of failure could be a plunger...

    Maintenance/problems with shaft drives.

Ok Murv, FWIW I will lob my tuppenceworth in the mix. Shafts are less fuel efficient, but as you said it is shafts or nothing. However, they are a fraction of the maintenance cost that outdrives demand. I have had two boats with shafts, sequentially over a period of 34 years. the seals to keep...
