YM Feb - Jellyellie - a waste of space

It's me he is having a dig at, not you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Unfortunately, some people who post here are a bit odd.

I posted on this forum under the name of my boat, all personal data fields filled in, from very soon after it started - - pre-2000.

The consequences were personally most unpleasant, and I shall not be making that mistake again.

I am, incidentally, not alone in this.

I totally agree that the Forum is a great place to discuss articles in YM, and sure, we'll all have different opinions. My unease stems from gratuitous comments about individuals that are are not germane either to the original article or to the thread.

Dick Durham is simply a journalist whose articles inform and entertain us, which is why many of us buy YM. That's his job. Does that make him a self promoting "minor celebrity", for whom irrelevant comments are fair game?

I'd much rather share a pontoon with a young lady who has drive and determination (and not a little ability with words, even if she favours her peers' vernacular) than with some of the other folk here.

I compare Jellyellie with the youth I encounter clogging up sink estates, wasting their lives away in pursuit of cheap drink and bad drugs, and enjoying all the rights this incompetent government and its woeful electorate have bestowed on them, while owning up to not one single responsibility, and I find she compares very favourably indeed. I wish her great success.

While she does indeed compare favourably, her website is shallower than the local duckpond.
Packed full of insubstantial teenage drivel, and fantastic claims about how many teenagers she has impressed...

I have met kids who have done more, and made a lot less noise about it!

Still. Not a bad sort by any means... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Personally I was not that much impressed with the article because quite simply it told me nothing new about sailing, told me nothing new about todays youth, nor did it help me to become a better old fart. Equally it was so predictable it was not even amusing.

You may well be able to support yourself in a way that makes you comfortable, and that is to be commended, but unless you can make your article either amusing or informative you will not be on my reading list.

Your concept offers promise which is of course why the article was run, but in my humble opinion it does need something extra to make people want to read the next one.
