What Is A Blade (Sail, Not Knife)?

Thanks for the pictures Dunedin, shows the style very well. I will be removing my roller reefing head sail (probably for the 2013 season) and intend to have some choices of fore sail instead of the one furling sail.

Okay then, sounds like what used to be called a No3 Genny, so I am left wondering where the name "Blade" came from. I have noticed it associated with "jib" i.e. a blade jib.

My shrink says I should stop watching _Blade Runner_ :)
