Tube Heaters

Does anyone know where I can buy a couple of tube heaters?
I went to a garden center today and was told that they were no longer made because they were dangerous if they fell into water! (Surely anything with 240volts running through it is dangerous if it falls into water.)
And I have been told not to buy fan heaters because if the fan stops you then have a fire hazard
So, answers please

Most, (all?) fan heaters have a safety cut-out for just that eventuality. <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk>http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk</A> (and many others) should still sell tube heaters.

Go to your local Trade electric shop. City Electric or similar. Cost about £8. Used all over the place, like stopping toilets from freezing. Bought a new one last year.

I use tube heaters throughout the winter of course they're safe and as you've been told tlc-direct, I got mine there too.

Like Byron I have them in my engine room put them on a time switch in winter during the night, stops
yer engines freezing fine.

Go to your local electrical wholesalers like city electrical or newey & eyre
I have mine on a thermostat so it only works at say 1 degree or below

I also have two in my engine bay on a thermostat - it gets cold on Windermere

In addition, when I bought the boat I found one in the cabin which appears to have been used just to heat that area (it was plugged in and sitting on the hob). I have not tried this one but would like to know:-

1) Would it heat the cabin ? (Bayliner 2655)

2) Is is safe to use in this way ?

I also use a fan heater which only cost £8 from Argos and has got auto cut out if it overheats

I was told that they're pretty low power, and don't have thermostats. I bought a couple of small oil filled rads from Machine Mart last year - 400W with a frost guard setting on the thermostat. One goes in the engine bay, one in the cabin to stop the dehumidifier freezing up. Cost about 25 quid each, nice enough to use round the house, if you ever needed to (conservatory in winter, praps?) and kept the boat sweet all winter. All the bedding/upholstery was bone dry and sweet smelling this spring.
