Hi everyone, hoping someone can help with this, all my boats over the years have been inboard diesel engined, but I have downsized to to Hardy 20 as a bit of a project and to keep me on the water. The boat came with a Tohatsu M90a 2 stroke outboard (2003), but there is no fuel system, no tank or hoses, so I'm starting from scratch and having only owned small outboards with integral tanks on tenders this is all new to me.
I've had a look at the outboards parts list and it shows 2 different hose connectors, one on the engine end and one on the tank end is that correct? I would have thought they would have used the same connector?, the hose assenblies I ve seen on line look like they have the same connectors on each end. From what I've seen on line a fuel/water filter is a good move and from a quick look at you tube it should go something like tank-fuel filter-primer bulb -engine?
It looks like the fuel tanks were at one time under the cockpit floor is this a wise move or would they be better above above?, any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated

I have a 2021 6HP Tohatsu (great engines btw) and the connector to the engine is the standard 2 pin you see on every outboard I've ever had. In short, so long as you have the correct end for your engine, you can pair it with any tank/hose combination you like. The one Tohatsu supplied with mine has a single connector to the tank (not 2 pin), and a 2 pin on the other end of the hose, with the priming bulb in the middle.

However, I have spare tanks and hoses that my uncle gave me which also fit the engine.

Re placement, you can put it wherever you want, just make sure:
1. You can get to the tank easily for filling or maintenance.
2. You can easily get to the primer bulb on the hose, as you'll prime fuel to the engine each time you use it.
