They never let us in there

IMHO its not worth it unless you like overpriced mediocre restaurants and being propositioned by wizened old hookers in bars. FWIW we've got in on a couple of occasions turning up very late. And been ripped off royally by the marina office for a shorepower adaptor. Or you can anchor just outside the harbour entrance or round the corner in Canebiers and tender in

Getting ready for sunset at anchor after a long hot day. Only the water was cold, this morning I tried to swim but couldn’t get further in than my knee joint. This evening I managed to get fully submersed. I swam twice around the boat and as far as the anchor. To those not in the know, that is the equivalent to once around Mike’s boat, so a long way.

No and it’s lost around 10 knots !
Can you see the EGT s while it s staining with fouled sterner gear ?

Tip ..... it does wear off ...ie the more hrs @ cruise the 8 hit burns off with the torque of MAN. ,s
But the risk is mushrooming the exhaust valves as you go, with EGT s north of 650 degrees C
I tend to poottle @ D speed to somewhere local ( in your case Paloma beach ) and Don my bottle and scrub the stern gear before letting rip .Talking just 2/3 weeks of lack of use. .....makes such a difference......you save fuel fwiw because you go faster for the same throttle setting .A diver will scub then for circa €200:, which you will recoup in fuel savings , in a typical week down there .

IIRC, ChrisH Pershing is powered by the same v8/800 that I have in my boat.
In which case, he can't - unless retrofitted.

But when you lose 10kts, you don't need any instrument to tell that engines are struggling.
I'd rather not use the boat at planing speed at all, with fouling as bad as that.

Is anyone based in/ very close to Golfe-Juan who could take a quick look at a Beneteau Antares 6.80 for me this week?

Happy to cover the cost of a nice bottle of wine or similar in return...

Yup ! Also the ram seals , there hygiene is important. So maybe best with Arnies to pre arrange a diver , before the boat moves
We have a guy in La Nap he is always busy in the season works all day light hrs , has a special round scraper and wire brush for rams .
In the yard pre season I often see them removed taken away and re sealed as a sort of annual maintenance thing ....those big rams with Arnies .The thing it’self left resting on blocks for a few days while the rest of the boat is antifouled .

Interested to hear from ChrisH as time rolls buy what the true Arnie experience is like maintenance wise .
Having said that I have a mate with a one off SHawk 48 made by S/Sker with twin Cetek 700s and Arnesons. Not to be confused with the std Trimax / Yanmar 440 s set up .He like me does his own “ annual “ ( has the time ) and once I helped him in the yard do his ram seals .Its not difficult, just messy and fiddly with tiny hex studs removing the end caps .Equally messy bleeding the air out when refilling the system .The oil I recall works out expensive as you have to flush out the old stuff for fear of contamination.
A lot of pipes with O rings to deal with too .My lasting memories are just being blathered in hydraulic oil from dawn until dusk .
Happy days :)

When I was in the hunt 2014 , the Greek financial crisis was full on , folks rioting and shooting bank staff etc , there was a 46 with the same V8 , 800s as you and ChrisH .....with Arnies based in Athens !!
Nice broker did his best but etc to lure me over but apart from the local political situation, ( which I knew would blow over ) I had nagging back of mind doubts re the maintenance and William on here PYB steered me towards the 42/48 variant with the I6 s .

So I figured the guys who collected me from the airport in Naples , black suits dark glasses ......in a 7 series and took me to the marina were a less risky proposition .In the end my judgement ( on who to buy one off ) was correct .

But I always wonder what if ? .............

don't really recall shootings in Athens and generally things were exaggerated, but I'd definitely worry on the maintenance of these things. Seen a few seemingly sitting on the hard for ever in Athens... Didn't bother ask the yard why though.
