So it’s Monday morning and I am on my boat ?
The anti foul has been done and the prop anode has been replaced.
The bad news is all my batteries are flat, I’m charging them now I just hope that this isn’t going to cost a fortune sooner rather than later. The weather is shite.
But other than that all looks good ????
What’s happened to the yard shore power ?
How come the engine bank is flat ? Bit like an old car .....wheres the drain when off?

re batteries, if left empty for a few weeks, good luck!
you could try regenerating them with a smart charger (Smallish one, I've got a 5A one iirc victron for that - a present from Bart!), one by one and keep fingers crossed!

I have a Cteck charger but I am just using the boat’s chargers after I plugged the boat in
I will probably try the rejuvenating option on the Cteck if it all goes badly. But I hate dodgy batteries on a boat so will replace them if necessary (especially the start batteries)

The drain was probably the fridge.
The yard disconnect the shore power when they took the boat out of the water two weeks ago (I don’t remember asking them but I’m glad they did and then I went from worrying about my anodes to worrying about my batteries ?).
The yard is rammed with boats and I’m right at the back, this morning I brought my longest boat extension cord and it only just reached the yards nearest power point

Hi am new to this forum but have been reading this post with interest. Our boat is based down in Denia, Spain and like many we have had our last (Easter) and our next (end May) trips cancelled due to flights with BA to Valencia being cancelled as well as obviously the current entry restrictions for Spain.
We have 2 returns booked (again with BA via Valencia) in July and August. Plus we have booked ‘backup’ ferry crossings Portsmouth-Santander just incase Ferries run but flights don’t!!
Any other suggestions on how to cover all the bases?
Any opinion on whether Spain will let us in this summer? Do we think sea/road borders will be treated differently to airports?
Quarantining back in the UK (on return) does not concern us.....but 14 days quarantine on arrival in Spain could be an issue (unless we can do it on anchor  )

They generally have separate banks .
One solely dedicated only for the engine(s)
A 2nd for domestic stuff ....fridge , lights etc

If so then the fridge will only discharge in theory the domestic bank .How ever having said that again there are specific boat appliances inc fridges which have an auto cut off so they don’t drain there bats .Works on the voltage supply once it drops below say 11,2 V ( guess ) the thing switches off .

So in theory both banks should be ok esp the starter bank ?

Nope maybe not at least for us

Quarantine measures will not apply to France, say Downing St and Elysée
Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron, the French President, have agreed quarantine measures would not apply between France and the UK "at this stage", according to a joint statement.
See details of the quarantine in the post at 19.11.
Downing Street issued the statement after the pair spoke on Sunday.
"The leaders spoke about the need to manage the risk of new transmissions arising from abroad, as the rate of coronavirus decreases domestically," it read.
"In this regard, the Prime Minister and the President agreed to work together in taking forward appropriate border measures. This co-operation is particularly necessary for the management of our common border.
"No quarantine measures would apply to travellers coming from France at this stage; any measures on either side would be taken in a concerted and reciprocal manner. A working group between the two governments will be set up to ensure this consultation throughout the coming weeks."
France is a part of Schengen. How on earth can we have free travel back and forward with France and not say Spain, or Italy. Or Germany....we can fly to France, jump on a train to Italy, or a plane. Then on way back reverse the trip. This whole thing is poorly thought through to say the least. perhaps the 50 pager is going to clarify things.

Plan your trip(s) on minimising re breathing others ( outside your household unit ) exhaled air .
Also contact with potential infected surfaces .All you need is few on ship or air port or plane =Risky !

Even 50 dead / day is 18 ,000 a year .@5% death rate = that’s 360000 cases .
A lot of the survivors ( the 95 % ) have permanent lingering after effects to other organs as well as lungs .

So don’t ,t volunteer for a ferry / cruise or airport experience any time soon if there is another way like car ?
Particularly avoid being in the first cohort of punters until it’s transmission rate @ airports , planes , ships is known.

That’s my thinking at the mo until it’s eradicated or the numbers are real insignificant like 5/10 dead per week .
Or ferries / cruises ( cooped up on ship with strangers ) and planes are established as low risk .

French has reciprocal arrangements planed with UK thus far no quarantine on rtn .
Cross border travel within the EU .....in this case Fr and Sp will resume for tourist .Look at the Sp lockdown step by step plans and the Fr .......all subject to further checks and assessments on the numbers particularly the R number between states .

Good luck with the batteries, worth checking the electrolyte levels. I would think you’ve a better than 50% chance of them recovering.

Whetever you do, don’t go posting pics of perfect weather and sea conditions (y)

Like I said earlier there are 500 K frogs living / working in London .....we probably need to keep them sweet .
But it’s worked as a lever for us .
Its the rebreathing others exhaled air ( outside your household) that needs deterring not encouraged .
Going through airports + sat on cruise ship could lead to continued low level transmission.

Its a numbers game ,
Happy to go through it again .
10,000 / day new cases at the rise of the pandemic . 900 dead / day and rising .....add in folks rtn at the start left to move freely .Those bringing it in will just add to the mix in a tiny % .No reliable then (and now my view ) testing ....so just let them mingle .

Fast fwd to the next stage the flattening off and decent of cases and deaths ....downward shift of curves .
Now 25 or 100 coming in infected could stall the final crush of the tail end .
So with 250 new cases and say 40 deaths , or 160 new cases and 15 deaths ....last thing you need now is to import ( inset you’re number ) .......10.....50 ...100 new carriers from dodgy places who’s R is higher than yours .

Towards the end it’s possible without Quarantine the disease may only be fed by imported cases .Ie the number of imported case related folks is greater than the indigenous population are developing .

Its a balance and blend when to gradually start Quarantine.

I can't answer that only to say this agreement seemed to come out of bilateral talks between UK and France. I suspect that other countries regularly visited by UK tourists may be currently engaged in similar talks

We're on the boat as well ... piddling down here just now and have to go ashore again as the memsahib couldn't find her list ... no wine and no spuds! Supposed to be sunny tomorrow. Boat surprisingly clean - starboard side deck a bit mucky, as usual, but decks clean and not much growth round the waterline. Going to give the whole boat a good washdown tomorrow with warm water, soft brush and some clever jollop added which leaves it shiny.

Were there flood warnings your way? It’s mostly just been spitting here but quite heavy last night and the forecast tomorrow is sunny (with wind)

Except thats not correct. At the very beginning the virus was brought into the country by one infected person only so its is quite valid to ask why a quarantine was not imposed on all incoming travellers as soon as the authorities were aware of that infected person. In fact the first recorded case was in late January so why wasnt a quarantine imposed immediately? Not only that but the UK authorities were fully aware of the devastating effects of the virus by that time so they must have known that it was only a matter of time before Covid reached the UK

I agree that once the infection numbers in the UK had reached the tens of thousands and transmission was mainly person to person within the UK, it was pointless imposing a quarantine on incoming travellers at that point particularly since the number of incoming travellers had fallen dramatically by then. However, I would contend that the UK should never have got to the point of having tens of thousands of infections. We are an island and we can, if we so wish, choose to control our borders far more effectively than countries with long land borders over which people can move freely. An early quarantine on all incoming travellers could and should have saved many lives in the UK

For travel to Spain, check the Gov.Uk site, then follow their link to the Spanish advice. They are coming out of lockdown in phases, but not all regions are moving at the same speed, for example Granada and Malaga provinces are not moving to Phase 1.
As someone else has said, I wouldn't be rushing. We've cancelled our end-June trip, even if the airline hasn't.

No flood warnings ... Allianz Insurance send weather alerts if anything nasty on the way! Got wine and spuds in stock now so all's well with the world!
