Here is the Reuters story - Note the dates!

MADRID (Reuters) - The Spanish government ordered a two-week quarantine for all travellers coming into the country from May 15 in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus after one of the Europe’s strictest lockdowns helped slow down the epidemic in Spain.

Incoming travellers will have to remain locked in and will only be allowed to exit for grocery shopping, go to health centres and in case of “situation of need”, an official order published on Tuesday said.

The quarantine has been enforced for all travellers coming to Spain between May 15 and at least May 24, when the state of emergency is due to end. The quarantine order can be extended jointly with possible state of emergency extensions. Spain has so far extended its restrictions four times since mid-March.
The measures applied to all travellers, including Spanish citizens returning to the country. Only truck drivers, airplane and ship crews, cross-border workers and health staff who are entering Spain to work are exempt from the quarantine.
Spain is one of the worst-hit countries by the pandemic with more than 26,000 fatalities recorded and more than 220,000 diagnosed cases. The country has started phasing out restrictions in the past ten days.

And now we have Matt Hancock telling us he is going to cancel all our overseas travel. For those of us based in Italy I have a feeling that the Italians want us to come so am hopeful we can at least get there sometime this summer. Getting back may be tougher. I hope Hurricane is right but this is also shaping up to be a battle between Boris and Sturgeon who I am sure will salivate over even a small uptick in numbers in England. FYI a group of friends went and arranged an antibody test yesterday. Of 21, 8 tested positive for the antibodies. I can not believe that the infection rate is single digit and if not ie it is higher, then this is a glimmer of hope.

Just out of interest have your 21 friends been mingling together recently?

Question is will the FO advice remain as don't travel? Would mean relying on EHIC as private insurance would not cover under those circumstances & therefore no repatriation.

I am thinking of just staying, 90 days is up early June, maybe just stay for another 3 months & accept my insurance will probably stop at 90 days.

Decisions decisions ?

Is there a reason you need private insurance before the end of the year?

:) Most got it in March before the lockdown and one said he probably got it back in Feb. I have 4 kids from 19 to 24. One was in Canada and came back end March. Another in France as a chalet girl also back end March. One at Uni and one working in London. I can not imagine that at least one has not had it and given they all came home at end March i would be shocked if all of them havent had it and possibly us. - I had flu along with SWIMBO at end March The one from Canada was in Whistler as a ski instructor. 5 of her Aussie friends returned to Aus at same time. They were all tested for the virus on arrival. 4 had it ie were positive but had no idea. I simply have to believe that anyone who has kids who moved around in Feb/March or do what kids do at Uni, has been exposed and a good chance of having had it. That said having the antibody, if it provides immunity of course, does not prevent one spreading it via touch etc. Hence it really is only a peace of mind thing.

Only for repatriation which isn't covered by the EHIC. I believe it's about £17k for a private air ambulance home. Not worried by the top up you have to pay to the French system on top of the EHIC. Thinking more about other illneses, not so much covid19.

Plus the insurer makes things a lot easier organising everything for you, as I found out in 2018 when my late wife was taken seriously ill down here.

Paris is almost back to normal, only restaurants not open, we’ll know in the next two weeks if it was a good idea to lift restrictions.

He can't, he can only advise. The only people who can stop you travelling to another country is the govt of that country so if France says they are accepting non essential visitors from UK, then you can go. Of course there may be other issues like getting back into the UK and health/travel insurance. If my travel and car insurance confirmed they would cover me for the trip I wouldnt have any hesitation in driving to SoF when the French border opens

I have a cynical theory which I hope is correct.
The UK Government have only recently added the extra cases (care homes etc) to the overall list.
I think that they might be getting all the bad news out now.
Unlike other countries.
That way, there will be no "skeletons in the closet" when we start to get the economy back working.
And maybe convincing the UK public to still isolate etc.
That would account for those extra spikes.
Am I living in "cloud cuckoo land"?
But, one thing that I'm really certain of though is that you can't trust the press to be accurate in anything that they report.

Agree with all said above.

I would like to think that by the end of May, and certainly by the end of June, we might be in a much better place. UK GOV will end up unlocking a little earlier than currently planned, to show how brilliantly they have managed the epidemic.

If they would let us drive without fear of fines through France and into Spain, I will happily quarantine myself on my boat in Spain for 14 days...!

Big blip today as expected but hopefully by Friday, we shall see the downward trend continue....

Agree with Hurricanes final sentence ...media have fallen to new lows with this .
A large part of the explanation I think is the chasm of knowledge reporting science......they don’t, understand it.

Anyhow this is NHS Eng hospital death chart .
So as those in open society , working , etc it’s this imho that shows where we are .

Thus far 33k divided by 66 M is 0.05 % dead
Or otherwise 99.95 alive .
The seasonal flue of 2015 wiped out 30K .....NHS coped and no shut down lockdown etc .Bet most on here never realised ?

I’ll be down to Antibes in a shot in my car as soon as I can. This whole pandemic is horrific, I’ve lost a family member to it, but I don’t want to not get a boat fix on my first season in the med...
