Tesco hudl

No reason why not, as long as Navionics don't start playing silly beggars with the settings for the app in the Play Store again. I think you get a week or so to try things with Tesco anyway, so you could buy it from a store and then just return it if it won't run Navionics.

You may find some good deal on the "old" version of the Nexus 7 around as well as a new version has just come out. Nexus 7 definitely runs Navionics and is a very, very good tablet. Doesn't have a Micro-SD slot though so no expandable memory.

Definitely like the latest Nexus 7, but am reluctant to try because of the lack of memory - even 32Gb. has anyone tried putting a powered usb hub on, through the miniB usb connector?

Come to think - my 1st PC had an extra-large HDD, 40mB and one used to worry about above and below the line RAM addresses. OS was DRDoS6 a lightyear ahead of MSDoS4 which was Gates' pathetic offering.

It should able to run Navionics; however, it is not that much of a bargain for £120; you can get 9 and 10 inch tablets with same specification, which are widely available for £60 to £80, with removable keyboard as well. Integrated GPS is not necessary, as you can get a GPS dongle for £10 and simply just plug in the tablet. Also, plug in a Mi-Fi, purchased from 3 Mobile, to be able to get Wi-Fi wherever you want while on the move/boat. Am I missing something??

If you are wondering about expanding the memory, you can use pen drives etc with the usb-otg functionality.

I really want a new nexus 7 as the screen is SOOOO much brighter, speakers are actually decent too.

I imagine that they will reduce the price of the Hudl to 99 quid before too long, if you can wait.

On the Tesco site it shows GPS as part of the wireless feature set.
I wouldn't want a tablet that needed something stuck in to an external port while in portable use. Too many opportunities to damage the port.

Not sure how well the single processor would handle re-draw on large maps, but still a massive saving vs iPad.

Also much cheaper than a repeater screen for plotter / MFD - at least in theory. Has anyone used the Raymarine or Garmin viewer apps allowing you to link to their plotters?

I much prefer the Admiralty RNC based "GPS Nautical Charts" app-its under £20 to buy and totally familiar in its format.

But looks like no France maps?

I am just about to get a boat (hopefully) so looking at nav apps for my iPad. These do look good, but France is in my cruising range - though probably not until next summer - so lack of France would be a drawback.

Just bought SWMBO a new Nexus 7 - from Tesco as it happens as they had by far the best price for the 32GB version.
It was a toss up between that and an iPad but she is thrilled with it and I'm pretty impressed too.
I may take a look at the second version of the Hudl from Tesco when they have got all the bugs out.
