Getting a perfect match is virtually impossible, best to go back to manufacturer and ask for some gel coat from him, even then it may not match if the original on the boat has faded.

There is a company called Blu Gee based in Poole who sell cream gel coat kits with three different shades to help match your gel coat up. This will work for small areas if you have a good eye, but for larger areas try and get the right pigment from the builder.

I did ask P.Padding, but they didnt recommend adding any pigment as it might unbalance the chemical reaction. Seemed a bit extreme, but guess they re the ones who would know!

Go to West Marine mail order in the USA (www.westmarine.com). They sell a gelcoat repair kit for about $20 which includes the gelcoat base colour plus various tints. Experiment, as I did, and you'll get the exact match.

Add yellow in very very little amounts at a time. Stirr properly. Get a few extra pair of eyes to judge on the match. Downside it will never last since the original fades at a different rate than the new one. Mine turned back to white over three years :((
