When you wrote this I assumed you were referring to this thread, not the link to the other thread, which was why I responded in the way I did.
As a matter of personal opinion, "Scuttlebutt" is a nautical term for gossip and rumour and derives from the habit of sailors doing just that by the drinking barrel on board ship. I think it most accurately described the contents of Scuttlebutt prior to "The Lounge", and it has always been the most articulate erudite and interesting of the forii, fora, (whatever), and the most fun. Any lack of decency and manners has been extremely rare, mostly it's good natured banter and I like it that way.
Personally I have been awed, (not too strong a word), by the education and knowledge of contributors here who have opened my eyes and my mind to many many things I hadn't known before.
