So who's GPS has failed today then?

Likewise my Garmin 75 from 1993. I'm surprised that the time is correct even though the date is out.

Apart from rollover, for the last half hour it has only been able to find three satellites (15, 19, 24).
ARRGGG!! Though it was working OK on the 6th, yesterday and today (8th & 9th) my old Garmin GPS 75 cannot link to satellites.

Going through its satellite acquisition routine, every so often it reports finding a satellite, but loses the connection almost immediately.

Looks like goodbye to £500 worth of kit (1993 prices).

I have a Simrad NSS evo9, I went on board the boat today to fetch something, so thought I would switch on the plotter. It came up at the usual speed, and showed correct position and date and time. I did apply an update quite recently, can’t remember what the version no is though.

My Garmin gps 75 is struggling as I write this, it’s found one satellite, but can’t find anymore. It also thinking’s that it’s Aug 1999.
Update on this, it’s found itself sometime during the night and apart from it being August 1999 everything seems fine. I did speak to Garmin who said not to worry about the date, it won’t effect its accuracy.

My very old Garmin GPS12 is still giving an accurate location and the correct time but thinks it is August 1999 so it has been influenced by the week rollover issue. Although I am not bothered by the date problem, i have discovered a piece of software that will allow you to input a current date so that subsequent date updates from the satellites will work, at least that is what I am led to believe. It is supposed to work on all the older Garmins. However, i need the correct cable to link the Garmin to a PC so have ordered one and will try in a few days. If it works I will report back.

Do you have a link where I can download the tool?
Thanks,

I now have a Standard Horizon CP300i, so would be interested if anyone knows if these have an issue...

Personally, I think anyone who has bought their GPS or chartplotter in the UK (and probably more widely in Europe) from a retailer, where the manufacturer refuses to provide a firmware update (as was the case with Furuno), and can still prove their purchase has a case against the retailer.

I have a Standard Horizon CP300i but haven't yet used it this year. However, I did find that the last update I had by the nice people at SH they told me I couldn't have any more because the innards of the device itself was slightly too old to accommodate it. (Hence I'm running on out-of-date charts, and have to disable a message telling me so every time I turn it on. Luckily, I treat the plotter as a general guide, rather than holy writ.)

the program is here http://www.gawisp.com/perry/garmin/gpseow.exe but I have not tested it. From what i understand, this program will upload a current date to the Garmin device to force it to ignore the August 1999 date that it is stuck on. Subsequent updates from the satellites will then work. Once i get my USB cable to link my GPS12 to my PC I will give it a try. If it wrecks my Garmin it does not matter as it does not owe me anything. If you are willing to try it on yours first, please report back.

My Lowrance HDS GEN2. is not getting a fix after installing the latest software update. That was yesterday.
Someone mentioned registering to be told when the fix is available. I cant find where though can someone point me in the right direction?

Interesting. My GPS12 is showing the correct position and also the correct time & date. Running software version 4.58 as shown on the initial startup screen.

It now seems that my ancient car sat-nav TomTom Go wont pick up satellites on the move.
Yet it will show upto 5 on the kitchen table, under a glass roof, but certainly let me down today.
Have bought a new Garmin.
Yet to go check the Standard Horizon CP180, that would be terrible if its packed up.

Is this anything to do with my Saab satnav failure, it shows the map and the icon moves with the car, the wrong way, and currently I am somewhere between Land's end and scilly

My furuno gp31 says 25th August 1999. The position seems about correct. It is bad that they, furuno haven't issued software updates, but as long as it gives the required data to my icom dsc vhf I will put up with the wrong date.
Just turned the vhf on and it shows the date as 25th August 1999. Does this mean that it will transmit this date if I push the red 'panic' button? Will the coast guard or the systems then ignore the distress call due to the date?

I'm up at NMOC in Fareham next Wednesday so will ask the CG the question and report back.

Yesterday I turned on a Garmin 128 and a 551 chartplotter/GPS combo on one boat. The 128 showed a position almost instantly, though I did not check it was correct (the boat was ashore so not navigation-critical). The 551 took several minutes to get a fix, showing a credible position on land on the screen.
Ten minutes later the 128 lost fix, and then re-acquired one a minute later. Could of course be nothing to do with the "rollover".
I fired up my Garmin 128 today, it appears to be giving the correct time and position (boat is on the hard but distances to nearby waypoints looked sensible) but it doesn't give the date anyway, I don't think? It came with the boat and I would guess could be best part of 20 years old.
