I have an Oceanis 411 and I intend to replace all the skin fittings over the winter, I would like to use Tru Design as they should last the life of the boat but because of space restrictions due to the hull and bulkheads I will not be able to use Tru design fully as they do not have an extensive range of bends, T's etc. I am thinking about using bronze through hull fittings, T's and bends and Tru Design ball valves and hose tails, where I can fit Tru Design totally I will do so but there are 45 or 90 degree bend fitted to the through hull then the ball valve in the heads, not the best practice but I don't have any option apart from doing the same, I am not going to hack the boat to pieces. Does anyone have any experiance of mixing Tru Design with Bronze

Try Design do straight, 45 degree and 90 degree fittings in long and short tails - not everywhere carries them but if you can wait to get them ordered in there is a much wider range than most changers hold. There is no reason not to mix with bronze but best to use sealant on the threads between them rather than tape.

Thanks for the reply, I have looked on Tru Designs web site and I can't find the fittings I need, I was going to use the sealant as TD recommend and also use bronze locknuts to ensure the angles between the various parts are correct and the connections tight, there is a lot to be said for the bucket and chuck it arrangements.

I understand that you shouldn't mix bronze and plastic components. The way the plastic threads are made is not the same way as bronze threads. The bronze threads may recut the plastic threads leading to weakened assembly. This info came from a friend who's boat is in a NZ boatyard. I guess it makes sense.

I fitted Tru Design components last year. I’m pretty sure I read in their on-line pdf guide that it was fine to mix with bronze. Worth looking at their guide and also their list of hose tails and elbows as they do a fairly extensive range.

We changed the heads discharge valve in 2018 by adding a Tru Design on to the original bronze through hull.

The TD website says a composite ball valve can be used on bronze through hulls, see the help section

Maybe it's not true then. The boatyard where he is refurbishing the boat told him not to mix. He has just put Trudesign where he could and all bronze where he didn't have space. As recommended by the NZ boatyard he is in.

I am in the middle of a replacement. I’ve gone for Maestrini bronze. It’s the strongest stuff. I did originally plan to fit a few Trudesign valves to them and they are ok to fit to bronze - I checked that with the factory first.
