Boat transport to Thailand from UK

OP has a nice boat and has chosen to give up work, why do you assume they have no money? Have you tried to discuss getting a visa, or are you assuming it's impossible and trying to convince the rest of us not to bother? There are many exceptions listed on that page that you've ignored entirely.

I hate to say it, but $80k isn't a particularly high bar for income.

Plus 1,000,000 in the bank, plus private health insurance valid for your stay....that's not holiday insurance.

It's not plus any of that, you're misinterpreting it. Obviously if you look at the millionaire tab then that's a requirement. There are multiple options for meeting the criteria, try speaking to a real agent as you don't seem to be able to interpret the rules yourself.

Quite a few of the crew members, on one of my drillships, British, live in Thailand, work in other areas of the world and have no residency in the UK. Pretty sure none of them have $1,000,000 in the bank. They are all married to Thai citizens, live a first class lifestyle, but playing golf is expensive.

If you look at the visa types there are different requirements if you are married to a Thai. I don't see what is the point of discussing the visa requirements, they are what they are, and they are the same for your crew members, which ever category they fit into https://ltr.boi.go.th/
There isn't a separate visa type for people who post on YBW

Don’t know why you are getting unity at me. I stated facts in the context of the discussion. My colleagues don’t recognize the violent Thailand that you claim.

I looked at Malaysia as there is an easier way to emigrate there and with tax advantages.

You could also sail there going with ARC RTW and have a look and consider if the places you stay are to your liking

Look at Malaysia My Second Home Program

https://residencies.io/residency/malaysia/temporary-residency/MY1

That link takes you through a third party. More direct info from the official site (though harder to read).

I looked at this scheme as a legitimate tax avoidance scheme for my retirement since I particularly like this part of Asia, however, in my view, the country is not without it's risks of attitudes to foreign property ownership and so I decided against it and stump up 40% to HMRC instead.

I'm not convinced you quoted any facts, other than ones you made up. Have look at the Gov travel site, south and other parts of Thailand is not advised, (whatever your alleged colleagues think about it)

They are facts, for some reason you have an issue with that. None are made up. One of the colleagues I knew well and travelled each month to and from Qatar to his home in Thailand, married to a Thai a wife, resident. He apparently lives vary favourably from a tax perspective but has to pay for everything for the extended family. I know of one other former colleague that I worked with in the same boat and three other associates from a drillship that my employer hired, all of whom I talked to about living in Thailand at various times, onboard the vessel. All living good lives in Thailand, free from being mugged.

Get over yourself.

The British government don't agree with you, also all of your make believe people will have to have their own private health insurance to have an LTR visa plus all the other qualifications. Stick to the facts, in the real world large parts of Thailand are subject to the travel warning, (effectively renders your insurance invalid if you were stupid enough to go to those parts of Thailand)
Having said that, northern Thailand, Lampang, where we have our house, is generally fine. I avoid the tourist areas anyway, and wouldn't go near any area subject of a travel warning. (Despite having family there)

Plenty of people who travel have health insurance, it’s not that big a deal. I get that you’re not comfortable travelling but why are you putting so much energy into talking others out of it?

Wow! You are effectively calling me a liar.

The information I offer is directly from UK citizens, who live full time in Thailand, married to Thai citizens. I assume they comply with rules, otherwise they would not be living there.

I also have a distant friend. who runs his own tour business in Thailand, British citizen, resident in Thailand, who has been there for decades. He is selling up, maybe it is getting more difficult for him, but I don’t really know why he is selling up.

If the UK government says don't travel to certain parts why would you ignore that advice?

No one is saying ignore it. People from the UK visit and live in Thailand without incident. Which is kind of how the thread has drifted.

Nevis is special, only he can live in Thailand and comply with the rules. Only his knowledge is relevant, no one else’s.

That is your take on what he said not mine.
Short term visit to the right area is OK. Long term it is easy if you have a Tai wife or are rich, is my take on this.

Or a job or one of the many other ways to get a visa. Best bet is speak to an agent rather than a negative fellow on a forum who keeps saying it’s impossible.
