I have experience servicing a number of engines but mostly older and apparently simpler engines than the 3GM. Other than the obvious oil & filter changes is there anything else that one whould consider on a 4yr old Yanmar?

We are having some difficulty starting at present but think this is associated with a reduced battery size and somewhat long cable runs. Does anyone know the expected absorbed power of the starter motor and the voltage that should be sustained while it is operated?

Is there anyone who has a service manual available electronically?

Any advice greatfully recieved.

the other thing to consider when servicing is anodes, depending on model.

i have a workshop manual in paper form but i am told there is a CD version available - i'm sure someone will tell you where to get it. it won't be much help for routine stuff as it's more for professionals, not a marine version of the haynes manuals.

re. your starting problems - do you just cet a click from the solenoid when you press the button? if so you have the same problem as both of mine. a new battery will help but i'm planning to strip & clean the solenoids this winter.

The starting problem results in the engine turning over for some time before starting. This was not the case earlier in the year when it started almost instantly on hitting the button. Now it starts instantly some of the time but sometimes turns over for 10 seconds or so before rather reluctantly (and smokily) coming to life. Once running it is very clean, as it normally is after starting.
