Terrible!!
A part of me wants to say:
Happy New Shearpin!
Yup. Sorry.![]()
I have never been unable to understand why people go all dewy eyed over such a primitive piece of non-engineering. It's the marine equivalent of a Villiers motorbike engine.
Really environmentally friendly engineering. Very few petrochemical derived components (indeen none at all in the early ones), and a design life of at least forty years.
Despite the scorn heaped on them one still has a place on my transom, with alternatives from the same manufacturer in the workshop should I feel the need.
Forty years, eh? Can Hond/Suzuki/Mariner and the rest say that?
Fantastic the duel is alive and kicking, come on you Seagull guys. Hey Dylan you could probably sell ticket for an event like this? I can see it now, roll up, roll up for the greatest show on earth!I will film a honda four stroke test in a bin,
scoop out some water
boil it on the trangia
make a half pint of tea and drink it
all on film
provided a Seagull owner is prepared to do the same
2hp
start and run from cold for ten minutes
put up or shut up
Dylan
When next you are driving to pick up your new Japanese outboard from the dealer, or just dropping it off to have it serviced would you please apply your lips to the car exhaust pipe to suck up all the harmful emissions emitted as you complete your journey. If however you walk or cycle to the dealer or importer then well done Sir but perhaps you could apply same lips to the funnel of the ship that imported it as that must cost the planet something, or perhaps to the chimney of the factory that made the new engine - all can be filmed of course

Would it help understanding of the possible merits of British Seagull engineering if I filmed my Seagull being submerged in several feet of sea water then started again and running none the worse for the experience within 5 minutes?
Perhaps the challenge could be amended to submerge the 4 stroke Jap in the bin for 5 minutes then try to get it started ....get the kettle on

to to pour a third of every gallon of petrol you use and all that oil is an absolute outrage
in my opinion
Where does this figure come from???

Oh - I don't know though ...
There's a great copy of a non-too-PC Seagull poster dated 1949-50, "Lightening the Brown Man's Burden" at: http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/nostalgia/nostalgia.htm
about a third of the way down the page.
Ah - the days of Empire.
