- at one stage anyway if not now the yacht had to be registered eg Part 1 and also a certain tonnage.
If ownership is shared, all owners have to be Club members. Whenevr the warrant holder is not in command (on it or near ie in the pub or Club) then the blue cannot be flown, it must have a red.
Also, no commercial advertising of any sort is allowed
Royal Clubs can fly a "Defaced Ensign" if they have been granted a warrant and the member's boat meets the condition of that warrant (usually size and ownership) - it can be red or blue, depending on the club.
Certain Clubs (one of which I am a member you may not be surprised to know) fly undefaced blues. Other less "senior" clubs (Oh boy I suspect trouble now) fly defaced blus and others still, fly defaced reds but there are also exceptions e.g (I think I'm right in saying) the RAFYC flys a defaced blue OR a sky blue defaced - or that may be commissioned RAF officers only.
The TWO most senior clubs are HM's Royal Navy (when in comission) and the RYS who, as you say, fly the white. I would imagine Her Majesty's personal standard doesn't count as an ensign esle.....
How about "some of the more senior Clubs..." as there are quite a few less senior -har har har, tiddly pop etc, fumble with cravat as unable to tie it properly, "Two large gins my man"......
Speaking of clubs, I went to the RSYC last night for the carvery, the food was excellent!!! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif That chef sure cooks a mean roast potato!/forums/images/icons/wink.gif
