Round Britain

Hello everyone.
I am new to this forum so i thought i would start with something that has been puzzling me over the the last few months. If I leave Inverness and sail anti-clockwise round to Fort William and then through the great glen back to Inverness, could I claim to have sailed round Britain?!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I suppose you and the Welsh & some Cornish are Britons - not so many left really, but they still manage to rule the English as well as their own countries!

Are you thinking of doing it (a) for an interesting cruise or (b) to brag about it?

No I will be doing it at some point just because I want to.
I think I will include the whole of the British coastline including arguably the most beautiful part of Britain, the North coast of Scotland taking in the Northern & Western Isles, commonly bypassed for reasons unknown to me.

Round Wales

I remember once reading about somebody with a Wanderer dinghy who did a round Wales trip, at sea then using rivers and canals.

Just read a great article YM about a couples part time trip around Britain. What a great way to use a boat.

In the age of rail travel mant yachtsmen made use of trains to cruise further afield,leavingtheir yacht in charge of a boatmam for a few pence whilst they returned to their original destination by train,a bit expensive to day I would assume.

We are trying to buy a boat from the south coast of England at the moment, the current owner pays over £6500 a year to keep her on a pontoon, thats a lot of travel money. What John & Sue Chadwick did with their years mooring fee was quite remarkable even if they did miss the top bit out!!!

Has anyone sailed non-stop around ALL the islands/rocks comprising the "British Isles"? I would include Rockall, Scillies, Channel Is etc.

I haven't found a reference anywhere for what may be a harder task than a RTW, albeit a bit quicker.

Why do people leave out the top bit? Is it the storms or the nuclear contamination?

I remember reading Ellen McArthers book and her tales of sailing round Britain and many others who have all titled their story round Britain. But can it be a round Britain trip when they all miss such a large chunk of it out?
