Orca attack

Report in the Guardian today of Orcas attacking and killing blue whale off Australia.

There is also a photo of an Orca swimming inside the blue whale's mouth to eat its tongue. Made me wonder whether they are biting boat rudders to check if a boat has a nutritious tongue which we call a rudder!

Hard to imagine Humpback whales are impervious to Orcas, as stated in that Guardian video?

It would be interesting to hear more details of this one, where they using the windvane to start with or was that deployed after the first attack ?

Agreed it is only good fortune that none of these boats has been sunk.

Eek. I've got friends sailing that way right now. And planning on going that way myself in a few weeks.

Orcaiberica no longer appears to be getting updated, which is a real pity because it was the best point of information.

My guess is that Cetaceans could get upset by any unnatural sound/sonar. Engine off, sounder off, don't play them c**p music...try Beethoven???

Perhaps musical appreciation has more to do with sensitivity than with intelligence but it's possible that orcas win there as well.
