I have inherited lots of old paper charts Imray, Admiralty and French ones for the South West and Brittany. They are lovely things but most are from at least 6 years ago. Is it worth trying to sell them? I suspect they are hardly worth the postage to anyone these days. Any thoughts?

You will not know unless you advertise. Charts are advertised on here and do sell. Six year old charts are not old, in fact they will be relatively up to date, compared to 10 or 20 year old charts.

I still use charts. There are two recent videos of a delivery company delivering a yacht, and they video their paper charts with courses marked up. even though they have modern navigation systems.

Paper charts are not yet written off.

I agree with the above, doubt if I have a chart produced this century 😐 but I always have the appropriate one on the chart table. I think using charts for planning is one of the real pleasures of sailing a cruising boat.
Put them on the For Sale section at a £8/10, UK delivered, and they will go. Maybe £50 for the lot? Postage is a problem, either tubes, or large folded it will be dear.

I have the same sort of syndrom with nautical charts and books: however old and useless they may be I am unable to sell them, or even get rid of them. I must be at my fourth editions of some C38 C39... Imrays for Brittany and still keep all the old ones.

Take them to a charity shop in any sailing port, they will be gone in a week and you will have done a favour to the shop and the customers. Same with old sailing mags.

Depending on your interior layout/tastes you could always use them as decoration in boat, any old timber surfaces that could do with a lighten up paste them on and seal with varnish and there you have it...I've had a few pints with friends staring at pub ceilings that have used them like that as we discussed our travels, good times😁

An experiencec marine engineer who looked after big engines on ships told me that old charts made the best gasket material. Lay the chart over the surface then with a ballpein hammer trace the outline of the holes and edges. He was rebuilding my engine durijng a suez layoff because of desert storm. He made a new head gasket which was still in use years later.

Cancelled charts on ships were mostly used for painting templates ......

The old charts are very good quality paper which has many uses for crafting. Plenty of old ladies would welcome them. Even an out of date chart is much better for planning than an electronic one I M h o. I tend to work things out on paper ones then check the latest data and updates on navionics

There’s one way to find out, post an advert in the for sale section. I’m interested in some for the south and west of the UK depending on the scale, age, area, etc. Why not list the details and add a price?

I would be interested in buying UK charts for the west coast (north of Lands End) up to and including all of Scotland, and the east coast (north of Ramsgate). Drop me a PM if you like.
