Now I've got my bog sorted out ... turned out that when I got eber fitted in November that the heating duct runs against one of the holding tank / loo T switches and instead of flushing straight out was going first into the holding tank and then straight back out again. Had to turn the switch round so it would be clear .. there's now a brass nut in the bilges between the heads floor and the hull that I can't get out.

However I've decided to take the plunge and get some decent sails, I'm thinking about a roller reeefing triradial genoa and a fully battened main. Any comments or recommendations .. I'm considering either Kemp's or Lucas at the moment.

There are hundreds of sailmakers and every one will have at least one fan. I know lots of South Coast Twisters speak highly of Kemps. I'm very pleased with my new Jeckells Genoa. My old North main is outstanding, and beautifully made. My Crusader blade jib does the job but is no beauty. A mate has just had a complete suit of sails made by Parker and Kay and is dead chuffed. The best spinnakers I've ever flown were built by Banks. Loads of Lymington sailors like Sanders. Etc, etc.

I'd say a very important consideration is to find someone local enough to look at the boat and rig first, then make the sails, then come out with you to make sure they work as advertised (and put them right if they don't.)

BTW. I'm not sure that your main might not just need a little recutting.

1 Find a maker that has made them for other 331's, they will have the measurements etc. and you might be able to speak with them for a reference etc.
2 The material you use is more important than the cut, the performance cruising threads and laminates are well worth the extra, see a recent PBO.
3 The cut is only important if you want to race, ie get upwind well
4 Foam luff is worth considering, consider 140% genoa for light airs. In laminate cloth it will not distort as much, or even less in tri-radial cut when it starts to blow.
5 F/B main is a good option, very stable, imagine would work well on yours.
6 Might be worth looking at seasonal pricing that some offer and trying to convince them that July is actually November (man of your charm should manage this easily Jim!)
I have been very pleased with mine compared to the standard Beneteau sets.

Re: i smell a rat ....

... metaphorically speaking .... "taking the plunge ..." into yon tank?? and the sublime excuse that it was when his eberspacher got fixed as if we could forget whose isn't and with similar reports of great clouds of black crudesence .... !!

You are always going to compromise performance with those radar non reflective sails.
