Moving to/from the dark side - yacht choice

If you are attracted to an SP cruiser and not unduly concerned at length then a Moody 45DS would be another option to view with a big engine , inside controls and more akin internally to a mobo maybe . Built by Hanse and offers plenty of comfort in a package that might appeal in terms of space and layout.

I would suggest the Moody Eclipse 43. My parents had one and it had internal steering, so similar to a mobo with inside/outside steering. They had a shallow keel and bow thruster. With an ensuite forward master cabin, a twin midship cabin and a double aft cabin. Another loo compartment is a midships. The saloon is raised with almost all round vision. It had a large engine and they added a generator for 240V. Sailing was easy as the mainsail was furling, as was the genoa. Sailing wise it was a reasonable boat in most conditions, slightly sluggish in light airs, but went light a train in heavy airs with a steady motion. The only problem was there were only a small number built, so finding one would be difficult.

Some very interesting suggestions thanks.

Moody 45DS....lovely and have drooled at SIBS but sadly beyond our budget, even second hand.

Moody 43 DS....now that has a lot of a accomodation and looks like a nice boat. Quick search reveals one under offer and one for sale abroad. More research methinks.

Sirius 38 - nice looking boat and again, more research required I think.

Nordship - one on with John Ridriguez and looks very nice but probably a bit pricey for us. Not looked at Wauquiez so again some more research required.

Thanks, very helpful :)

If you are going to widen your search then there are many more designs to consider, in both the quality end and the mass produced. Examples might include Nauticats from the former and Bavaria Visions from the latter.

Interesting. I think there is probably a slightly different mindset between people who do both mobo and sail and those who are a little more purist in their approach to sailing. One isn’t better than the other of course, just different interests/perspectives :)

Probably a fair point. Funnily enough this journey started having seen a Nauticat on the market........

Any particular reason you aren't considering a catamaran? That's the usual choice for ex-mobo people. Don't know what your budget is but you can get something very nice, capable of circumnavigating for £100k or less if you are willing to have something from the 90's or earlier.
