Hundreds of poker runs have been held around the world.[citation needed] The record for the largest event was set in 2009 with 2,136 motorcyclists,[1] although an event in 2008 claimed to have 15,000 participants.[2]

Rules and details vary. Poker runs usually require a fee to enter; part of the fee goes to funding the event, including the prizes, while the rest goes to the event's charity recipient, if any. Prizes, such as money, plaques, or merchandise donated by commercial sponsors of the event, are awarded for the best hand. Some runs will award smaller awards for lower hands or even the lowest hand.
Each checkpoint might offer food or entertainment, either covered by the entry fee or at additional cost. Each participant is responsible to maintain the integrity of their hand during the run.[citation needed] Hands are usually written down or marked with punched holes on a ticket, rather than assembled from actual cards given to the riders. The only requirement is that riders arrive at the final checkpoint by the time prizes are awarded, usually near the end of the day, typically at a party with food and refreshments. It might be required that participants collect all of the requisite number of cards, five or seven, or they might be allowed to miss checkpoints and use a hand with fewer cards, though the odds of a winning hand are much lower.

Sad to be grumpy on my first post here, but having listened and seen that moron in the full on race boat, all I want to say is:

It's mtime we had a speed limit inside the bay - it's merely a matter of time before there's a serious accident, maybe even involving one of the children in an Oppy.

How about a different approach so yachts can join in?.... One boat goes out first and drops weighed balloons in the sea at random. Each boat has to get their coloured balloons.One with most of their colour wins. Maybe have a entry fee say £5 each winner gets the pot. Should be fun?

Good MOB practice aswell. I will get the heavy duty balloons. Little weights but just need a boat to disperse them in advance. We need a flat calm day so i guess after xmas.

Yes that sounds good. I was hopping sometime in the holiday seasons after easter beacuse that's when we sail as we are on the Severn but then it is a long time to plan for.

How about making it an annual event based at a different marina each year. Thus allowing for apré-comp' socialising!

Got a video of him but I guess I'd be wise not to share it having succumbed to temptation and called him a moron.
But its an icredibly loud open sports boat and looks as if it might be about 25 to 30 ft with a rooster tail of spray behind it.The noise level is unacceptable in my view but more important is the risk involved in allowing unlimited speeds in the same bay thats used for canoeing, kids in Oppies, even sailing cruisers. Just doesnt make sense when there is all the room that anyone could want on the other side of the lock gates.
Nor does it make sense for the tripper ribs to weave in and out of the buoys at full speed. I'm sure that the guys who drive them are very competent but that doesnt make them accident proof.
