I think that is what most people decide. You need a certain "convoy" mentality to enjoy it otherwise.
Since I bought my boat, which is only 21ft and was originally sold as a trailer sailer, I have revised my ideas about what is practical in terms of "trailer sailing". I certainly wouldn't want anything bigger. As it is I would not want to try to retrieve her on anything other than a good dry concrete slip without a 4WD. I'm afraid my original idea of towing her to remote sailing spots for a weekend is just fantasy. I'd spend more time stripping down brakes and bearings than sailing!
Your Audi must have been near it's towing limit for that?
I had a 22 foot eboat
four wheel trailer
towed it to scotland twice behind a 1600cc sierra owned by IPC
engine needed replacing at the end of each summer
Dylan
however, now that Mac are going to give me a Discovery and a free boat towing will be easy

Well, a whole can of worms opened up here !
So what boat would you choose to meet the following requirement seeing as the Macgregor is "the spawn of the devil !"
1/ trailer sailer
2/ beachable
3/ for a couple (in their 60s.)to have a holiday on as well as pleasure sailing
4/ clean inside and easy to clean as well
5/ ability to do canal work for long trip
6/ easy mast dropping single handed
7/ substancial room inside
8/ 6ft. headroom
9/ newish design
10/ between 10--15 K
11/ bearing in mind the canal/broads trips good motoring ability
12/ moderate maintainance
13/ ability in the sailing department limited
14/ SWMBO not the best of sailors
16/ store at home
17/ larger than 21 ft.
18/ easy to launch/recover
and several other requirements too many to list (without boring you)
"Asking"?
I weep for the empire, if you are reduced to bloody asking. Hardly shaking in my boots, am I.
Buy one then. Enjoy it.As of today I have not seen any argument that stands up to scrutiny (even though thread was hijacked "lounge like") that has convinced me that the Mac does not tick most of the boxes in my list !.
If you are aware of the Macs limitations and practice good seamanship there seems to be no reason to doubt that the boat will be used and enjoyed by a pleasure sailor with very few problems with a good return of pleasure-pounds ( £s. )
As I've said before (probably in this thread) - they serve a purpose and are a perfectly valid choice for many people - provided you understand their limitations before you hand over your cash.
My only other observation is that you really should look at the Legend 27 Edge before you commit. Very similar concept, similar price and when we looked at both, we preferred the Legend. I quite probably would have bought one, but it was when they were just launched and Luhrs were unable to show me one in the flesh. By the time they had a demonstrator available, we had moved on and purchased a larger, deep keeled boat.
I have noticed that these appear to be quite cheap so I was wondering why
