Re: Leisure 29 - specifically ?

You might need to be a little more specific to save people responding that it's a fibreglass boat, fat at the back, pointy at the front with a big white flappy thing in the middle!

I looked at one a couple of years ago - seemed quite good value (although it was being sold by a widow trying to get rid of it).

Good sea berth with a wooden slat you could use as a lee cloth (board) - didn't like the nav table that you had to fold away to get to the aft berth on the the starboard side.

Didn't buy it - can't remember any more about it although I remember it seeming quite well built and solid.

Re: Leisure 29 - specifically ?

I've literally just bought a 1979 Leisure 27 - I don't know if my first impressions will be of any use given your interest in a 29' but just in case here they are (note that some of my comments draw comparison with Westerlies which I have also previously sailed/owned):

- Very good accommodation for size and age
- Nice use of wodd donw below compared to acres of plastic visible in some older plastic boats
- Similarly pleasing appearance for a 23 year old plastic tub - there are much worse looking newer boats around in my view
- Sailing ability pleasantly sharp for it's age, probably at it's best up to F4
- Construction solid enough but probably one degree below some Westerlies I have owned (Centaur, Berwick) - would think twice before voluntarily leaving the Solent in F6+, especially for any significant upwind sailing - this may be a bit unfair and I may change my views in time.
- Position of stern mooring cleats not ideal (nowhere near corner of boat)
- Wish that inner and outer shrouds were anchored at different parts of the deck and not in a combined unit - this is related to my earlier reservation about setting out into heavy weather where I am reliant on a very small area of the GRP structure to hold the mast up in a blow.
- Helm a little heavier than expected (again, comparing with Westerlies)
- Turning circle under power not as tight as expected (again, comparing to Westerlies!).

Hope this helps a bit.
Rob Webb.
